"Huang Jiasi Surgery" is an original academic monograph, a classic of medical science, and a representative masterpiece of surgery that has been organized and compiled by Medical Scientists in China since the founding of New China and has been compiled by Medical Scientists themselves. Since the publication of the 1st edition in 1960, a total of 8 editions have been revised, from the 1st and 2nd editions of Academician Huang Jiasi, to the 3rd edition of Academician Huang Jiasi and Wu Jieping, to the 4th, 5th and 6th editions of Academician Wu Jieping and Qiu Fazu, to the 7th and 8th editions of Academician Wu Mengchao and Professor Wu Zaide, from the 1st edition of Academician Huang Jiasi, Academician Wu Jieping, Professor Fang Xianzhi, Professor Lan Xichun, Professor Zeng Xianjiu and Academician Qiu Fazu, to the 8th edition of the Global Chinese Outstanding Medical Scientists. Nearly 300 surgeons participated in the compilation, and "Huang Jiasi Surgery" has become a classic masterpiece like the "Bible" of medical science in China and even in the world, with revisions, generations of generations, and talents.
In the more than 60 years of publication of "Huang Jiasi Surgery", many touching stories have occurred, and what is particularly difficult for us to forget is that the third edition of "Huang Jiasi Surgery" was launched under the kind care of our beloved Premier Zhou Enlai.
At that time, during the "Cultural Revolution", Academician Wu Jieping served as the head of the medical team of Premier Zhou. When the beloved Premier Zhou Enlai learned that "Huang Jiasi Surgery" had not been revised since the publication of the second edition in 1964, he instructed Academician Wu Jieping to convene experts from all over the country to start the revision work as soon as possible. This reflects Premier Zhou's broad mind and lofty realm of always keeping the people in mind, caring for the people's woes, caring for the people's health, and serving the people wholeheartedly, and also reflects Premier Zhou's careful concern for the development of China's medical and health undertakings and the great importance he attaches to the cultivation of high-quality medical and health personnel. Under the care of Premier Zhou, Academician Huang Jiasi, then president of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, with the support and assistance of Academician Wu Jieping, overcame the difficulties at that time, urgently convened experts and professors from all over the country to gather at the People's Medical Publishing House to convey Premier Zhou's concern and instructions, and began to form an editorial board.
The 3rd edition of "Huang Jiasi Surgery" was published in April 1979 in two volumes with a total of 2.7 million words; a total of 24 units participated in the compilation, with 152 writers, mainly targeting surgeons in primary hospitals. After the publication of the third edition, more than 100,000 sets were quickly distributed, which made important historical contributions to the development of medical undertakings, the prosperity of the publishing industry and the cultivation of medical talents after the reform and opening up, and also laid the historical status of "great people caring for and casting classics" in this book.
Inspired by the touching deeds and lofty spiritual character of the beloved Premier Zhou, several generations of medical practitioners and guards have slept and forgotten to eat, poured out their hearts and blood, and written books, with the heart of craftsmen, meticulously crafted, pursued excellence, and the edition was inherited. The previous editorial board members have come from the academic originators, academic titans, academic authorities or academic leaders of surgery; the previous editorial board members have also become academic leaders, academic elites and discipline giants at home and abroad by participating in the compilation of "Huang Jiasi Surgery", and more than 30 editorial board members have been elected academicians of the two academies; "Huang Jiasi Surgery" has also been used as a compulsory textbook, essential reference book and desk tool book for medical students and doctors, cultivating generation after generation of medical workers and outstanding surgical talents for New China, and making outstanding contributions to the people's health cause.
At the time of the centenary of the founding of the party, the editor-in-chief of the 8th edition, Academician Wu Mengchao, and Professor Wu Zaide led all the editorial boards, adhering to the sincere heart of the doctors, with the spirit of "ten years of grinding a sword", striving for excellence, with the 8th edition of "Huang Jiasi Surgery" to present the centenary of the founding of the party, and earnestly hope that the revision of the 9th edition will be started as soon as possible to make new contributions to the development of China's foreign scientific undertakings.
