Chen Huizhen, an 83-year-old native of Zhaoqing, Guangdong Province, graduated from the Department of Medicine of Hubei Medical College in 1961 and has been engaged in clinical, teaching and scientific research in gynecological oncology for nearly 60 years, especially in cervical cancer prevention and treatment and advanced ovarian cancer surgery. He not only created a variety of surgical methods, but also participated in the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer in Wufeng, Yichang for 40 years, helping to significantly reduce the incidence of cervical cancer in the local area. After retiring, he chose to continue to fight on the front line of medical treatment, performing outpatient and surgical procedures every week.
On the morning of October 15, Chen Huizhen changed into a surgical gown and walked into the operating room to participate in the guidance of a difficult operation for advanced ovarian cancer. For more than 30 years, Chen Huizhen has organized and co-authored 30 medical monographs, and even after retirement, he still works tirelessly, writing books every night in his spare time. Chen Huizhen revealed that the 2 million-word "Chen Huizhen Gynecological Oncology (Third Edition)" co-edited by him will be officially published and distributed next year.
"I don't have many hobbies, so writing books counts as one." Chen Huizhen said that in the past 60 years of practicing medicine, he has done nearly 20,000 surgeries, contacted many difficult cases, accumulated a lot of clinical experience, and hopes that these experiences will be used by more peers to learn from through papers, books and other forms, and contribute to the continuous progress of gynecological tumor prevention and treatment.
