Reach out to international friends

"I distinctly remember mr. Chris warmly thanking everyone in our ward before he was discharged from the hospital, and his mouth kept feeling that he had seen the world's leading medical technology and services in China. Without Dr. Wang's daily help in communication, it would be difficult for us to provide him with such a satisfactory service. Dr. Wang in the mouth of Chen Yafen, the chief nurse of the special needs ward of Beijing Jishuitan Hospital, is the protagonist of this article, Dr. Wang Han. Wang Han, 32, graduated from Peking University Medical College with a Ph.D. and is currently the secretary of the Youth League Committee of Beijing Jishuitan Hospital and the attending physician of spine surgery.

Practice thinking about the condition in English every day

Dr. Wang Han recalled that Mr. Christopher Mutzwangwa was a senior official from Zimbabwe, a country along the Belt and Road, but suffering from ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament of the cervical spine, he suffered from severe compression of the cervical spinal cord, resulting in pain, numbness and decreased flexibility in his hands, and he developed into an unstable walking in the first three months of the operation, completely unable to live a normal life. I heard that Jishuitan Hospital has an orthopedic level comparable to that of developed countries, and specially flew to Beijing from thousands of miles away to prepare for surgery. As a member of the treatment team of Director Liu Bo of Spine Surgery, Dr. Wang Han took the initiative to undertake the exchange of conditions with this special patient. From asking for medical history and writing medical records, to preoperative conversation and signing informed consent, to explaining the condition after surgery, guiding patients in postoperative rehabilitation and functional exercises, he used proficient and professional English to communicate with patients in depth, so that patients understood the worldwide diagnosis and treatment progress of the disease and the surgical plan given by Jishuitan Hospital for his condition, which made Mr. Former Ambassador greatly appreciate the vision and level of Chinese doctors.

"I was able to do this well thanks to the Commonwealth Orthopaedic Specialist Training Programme (FRCS) introduced by Jishuitan Hospital. If I want to complete the training and pass the exam, get the international certification, it is not enough to just do surgery, I must master the advanced concept of orthopedic diagnosis and treatment, and practice thinking and describing the condition in English every day, those who have passed the FRCS exam will ask me questions at any time! ”

More than 1,000 people participated in the free clinic services

"Obtaining international certification is not the goal," Dr. Wang Han said, "just to improve your own means." I hope to use the knowledge I have learned to serve as many people as possible, and the coverage of clinical diagnosis and treatment in the hospital is not enough, so I will organize and participate in volunteer services such as free clinics and health education. I want to tell patients how to solve more problems with less cost, and then hope to change people's traditional, misconceptions and irrational ways of treating common orthopedic diseases. ”

As the secretary of the youth league committee of the hospital, Wang Han organized some like-minded young comrades in the hospital to participate in free clinics and health education in their spare time. In the past two years, he has participated in more than ten volunteer service projects such as free clinics, serving more than 1,000 people, participating in many activities such as bright health public welfare walks, regionalized team building CPR into the campus, "guardian angel" medical consultation, respect for the elderly and help the elderly to send warmth, and insist on annual free blood donation. Every year, he led a young medical and nursing medicine team to carry out the activity of "taking the road of Wei Jianning and being a good doctor in the style of Wei Jianning", insisting on going to the remote mountainous areas of Beijing where the late director of hand surgery and "the good doctor of the people" Dr. Wei Jianning was stationed in the village, which has become a volunteer service brand project of Jishuitan Hospital, which has been sincerely thanked and warmly welcomed by the villagers.

"Doing public welfare makes me feel happy"

"Directly helping patients is on the one hand, more importantly, how to improve the diagnosis and treatment concept of grass-roots doctors, and now we need to do a lot more." As members of the Youth League and as youth volunteers, we must actively respond to General Secretary Xi Jinping's ardent expectations for young people at the commemoration of the centenary of the May Fourth Movement, charge ahead, and take practical actions. Wang Han sighed, "Doing public welfare services will really make people feel happy, but I hope to spread the current international advanced diagnosis and treatment concepts to grass-roots medical units and benefit more patients." ”
