The Provincial Headquarters for the Safety and Security Of Asian Elephants Moved North and South of Yunnan province reported on the evening of the 8th that from 17:00 on July 7 to 17:00 on July 8, the elephant herd moved 12.6 kilometers in Yangwu Town, Xinping County, Yuxi City, all within the monitoring range, and the elephants were safe.

The provincial-level command headquarters organized experts to go to Shiping County, Honghe Prefecture, and Yuanjiang County, Yuxi City, to conduct on-the-spot investigations, predict the migration routes of elephant herds, and study and formulate a plan for assisting the relocation; supervise and urge Xinping County of Yuxi City and Shiping County of Honghe Prefecture to strengthen cooperation, coordinate linkage, and jointly help the elephant herds migrate along preset routes; it is difficult for elephants to enter dense forests at night to monitor, and coordinate technical units to set up infrared cameras in advance on the edges of woodlands and villages where elephants may be infested, so as to improve monitoring and early warning capabilities.
The on-site command headquarters strengthens safety precautions, goes into villages and households to popularize the knowledge of Asian elephants' living habits, and carries out publicity and education on safety precautions; closely monitors the movement of elephants, makes research and judgment in advance, and makes every effort to do a good job of monitoring and early warning; in view of possible risks and hidden dangers, strengthen on-site control and take measures such as scientific guidance, road control, and emergency evacuation to ensure the safety of human elephants. On the same day, a total of 175 emergency response personnel and police forces were put in, 140 muck trucks, 40 emergency vehicles, 20 drones were dispatched, 4412 people from 1044 households were evacuated, 1 ton of elephant food was fed, and 400 vehicles and 800 people were persuaded to return.
