In 196 BC, the envoy of the Han Dynasty, Lu Jia, disregarded the boat and cart and rushed to panyu city (Guangzhou) in the South Vietnamese state. Lu Jia's task was to persuade the king of the South Vietnamese state to return to Han and formally appoint Zhao Tuo as the king of the South Vietnamese state on behalf of the Han Dynasty government. The people of South Vietnam are accustomed to haircuts and especially like tattoos, which is obviously very different from the Central Plains people's concept of "body hair and skin, parents". After all, the cultures of the two places are different, if it is difficult to return the South Vietnamese state to the Han Dynasty, how did Lu Jia, as the top diplomat of the Han Dynasty, complete the task?

The people of Lu Jia Chu state, who initially followed Liu Bang as a guest, were famous for their eloquence and good speech. At the beginning, Liu Bang sent Lu Jia to trick the Qin Dynasty defenders into surrendering, so that the sneak attack was successful, so he successfully entered Guanzhong. Lu Jia made his first appearance in history, completed the task brilliantly, and later after many missions, he finally became a top diplomat. On this mission to South Vietnam, Lu Jia was the perfect candidate.
When Lu Jia came to the Kingdom of South Vietnam, Zhao Tuo's hair was tied like an awl, and he stretched out his legs and sat to receive the envoys of the Han Dynasty, very arrogant, impolite, and did not look at these emissaries at all. As soon as Lu Jia saw Zhao Tuo's hairstyle, typical of the South Vietnamese natives' dress, he immediately refuted him with "deceiving the teacher and destroying the ancestors".
Lu Jia said, "I remember that the foot is from the Central Plains, and the graves of your ancestors are in Zhending County." You guy dare to violate the habits of the Central Plains and wear this outfit like a ghost! It's a deception. Even if he shamelessly claimed the throne in the small Yuedi and dared to confront the Great Han, I was afraid that a great disaster would be imminent."
Lu Jia's entry point is very good, taking Zhao Tuo's identity as a Central Plains person, moving out of the ancestors to criticize him, leaving him dumbfounded. In that year, Qin Shi Huang sent Great Qin Wei Ren Hu as the main commander, and Zhao Tuo as the deputy commander to march on Baiyue, and established three counties: Nanhai (Guangdong), Xiang County (central and northern Vietnam) and Guilin County (Guangxi). Since then, Zhao Tuo has remained in the south as a county commander. During the reign of Qin II, the world was in chaos, and Zhao Tuo's old superior Ren Hu was dying at the time, allowing Zhao Tuo to take over the three counties and establish himself as king, so he established the State of Nanyue. Zhao Tuo's ancestors were authentic Central Plains Zhao Guoren, so Lu Jia moving out of his ancestors would play a great psychological role, stimulating Zhao Tuo's homesickness at once, so that he could continue to have an equal dialogue.
Lu Jia continued, "My emperor is very powerful, the first to enter the pass to eliminate the violent Qin, and at this time to kill the more violent Chu Bawang." Our emperor set out from Bashu and destroyed Xiang Yu in three strokes, five divisions, and in just 5 years, he came to the world. Our emperor is not only powerful, but also has received help from heaven."
In fact, Lu Jia did not brag, just stated the facts, but hid Liu Bang's appearance many times, mainly to show that the military strength of the Han Dynasty was very strong, so that Zhao Tuo, the king of Nanyue, felt that the Han Dynasty was not good and could not afford to provoke.
Lu Jia continued, "The military generals of the Wenchen Dynasty proposed to recover the lingnan homeland, but our emperor pities the common people for a long time, so he sent me to grant you the seal of the king, as long as you claim to the north of my emperor, the matter will not be resolved." If you disobey, don't blame us for being rude, we will first dig the grave of your ancestors, and then randomly send a partial general to lead an army of 100,000 to pacify the South Vietnamese state." Lu Jia finally threatened the King of Nanyue, and Zhao Tuo was so frightened that he quickly left his seat to apologize to Lu Jia.
To be fair, the state of South Vietnam is very far away from the Central Plains, and as far as the current situation of the Han Dynasty is concerned, it is in the stage of recuperation, and it is impossible to take care of the South Yue Kingdom, which is far away from the mountains and rivers, I am afraid that Zhao Tuo is afraid that the Han Dynasty will dig up the graves of his ancestors. Instead of being stalemated like this, it is better to accept the appointment of the Han Dynasty, first keep the tomb of the ancestors, and then say, anyway, it will not affect being the emperor of other lands, why not be happy.
Lu Jia, as the top diplomat of that era, did have two brushes. Start with Zhao Tuo's identity as a Central Plains person to eliminate the barriers between cultures. Then state that Liu Bang won the world, not only the strength of the force but also the destiny of heaven, so that Zhao Tuo felt that he could not afford to provoke. Finally, he directly threw out the threat and made Zhao Tuo submit to the Han Dynasty. The whole process is simply gradual, in one go.
