"The gallery is half scattered with gold powder, and the pool is covered with moss. Stepping on the grass afraid of mud new embroidered socks, cherishing flowers and hurting small golden bells", "not to the garden, how to know the spring color is as promised, and the Suzhou garden is the most shining treasure of ancient Chinese garden art, it has the natural landscape of "although made by people, it is like opening from heaven", there is the poetic meaning of "rain and poetry dream of leaving banana leaves, the wind carries the book out of the lotus flower", there is "see the infinite in the limited, and return to the limited in the infinite", and it is the place where the "unity of heaven and man" national culture advocated by Chinese ancient times is located.
The project is located in the core area of Zhuqiao, Pudong, Shanghai, adjacent to Pudong International Airport in the north, COMMERCIAL Aviation Assembly Base in the south, and Disney in the west, with a superior geographical environment. This project, based on the Suzhou garden, carried out a gardening practice, adhering to the garden spirit of "clever borrowing, fine in the body", the garden mood of "the breeze and the bright moon are priceless, the near water and distant mountains are sentient", and the modern architectural vocabulary is used to build a space model of modern gardens, so as to realize the dialogue between time and space with classical gardens.

The layout of the garden pays attention to the nature of the teacher's method, and in the limited space, the pavilions and pavilions are integrated with the landscape, flowers and trees, and the exquisite conception and elegant taste are reflected in the meandering paths.
Through the classic garden route of Canglang Pavilion, the functional blocks in the base are organically connected, restoring the garden experience of the classical garden, changing the scenery step by step, and attracting people's deep and distant thoughts.
Form Sharping is generated by the form
Take its essence, the first camp its form
- Wall
The magic of the garden is to "lock" endless nature within the courtyard wall and become a landscape in the mirror niche.
A "wall" is a boundary. In this design, in addition to following the regional limitation of the walls of the shizu garden, the wall also opens up the possibility of visual transparency in the local area, retaining the mysterious sense and arousing curiosity.
— Into Compound
Within the courtyard wall, the central axis is connected in series to form a depth of "advance". The "entry" of the ancient house is enclosed by the house, and the garden is reflected in the level through various scenes on the axis, that is, the depth of field. In this design, the designer takes the charm of the famous garden huanxiu mountain villa in Jiangnan, takes the axis as the medium, and connects the four important design sites to form the layout of "the steps of the mountain - the house of the water - the garden of the stone", reproducing the charm of the huanxiu.
- Path
After the mountains and rivers are sorted out, the reason why the "garden" can be achieved is undoubtedly to provide a "viewing method" for the garden visitors. At this point, the "path" is particularly important. The so-called change of scenery in the garden is caused by the tortuous change of the "path". This design pays tribute to this technique, and the twists and turns of the walking path are deliberately set, so that people can pass through each place, but they cannot cross, they can only stop and watch, forming a spatial attribute of "visible but not reachable", fully embodying the inherent narrative structure of Chinese gardens.
Borrowing its soul, all show its charm
— Faced Scenery
Crossing the bridge, the line of sight over the falling water shadow wall can faintly see the floating box, like a simple and ancient stone pavilion in the Canglang Pavilion that soars on the top of the mountain, exposed endlessly.
- Framing Enframed Scenery
After entering the garden, you can see the exhibition hall of Tonggao. Through the glass, the inner hall space is deliberately raised, so that the contrast between the indoor and outdoor scenes is further enlarged, and the visitors in the garden seem to be peering into another world inside through this frame.
- In Scenery
After taking a detour through the garden to the rear and entering the main building, visitors to the garden enter the world they had previously spied. At this time, however, they also became the object of snooping by latecomers. The relationship between "seeing and being seen" is established at this moment, and the boundary between subject and object is blurred at this moment.

Technique & MATERIAL
Abstract landscape, deconstruction of modernity
In order to fully "pay tribute" to the garden, the designer proposed the strategy of "deconstructing the landscape", that is, using the design method of modern architecture to abstract the elements of the landscape, so as to carry out refined design, this thinking process has roughly gone through three stages, namely "standard abstraction→ graphic figuration → deconstruction abstraction", mainly for the detailed design focused on the entrance grille and the upper volume details of the main building.
Standard Abstraction
infancy. The entrance is designed as a homogeneous grille, with imitation wood metal rods spaced 1m apart, lined up in a row to form an array to replace the concept of "doors" in the garden. Similarly, in the upper part of the main building, in order to achieve the purpose of weakening the boundary of the building, the designer also adopted a more industrialized homogeneous perforated metal folding plate.
Graphic Concretization
medium term. The style of the entrance grille is designed into a figurative mountain pattern to respond to the intention of the landscape in the garden. In the design of the folding plate of the main building, the perforated plate with the snowflake pattern also pays attention to the relationship between the blank space of the landscape in the Chinese painting.
Deconstructed Abstraction
ultimately. After in-depth thinking, the summary and sublimation of the previous design language, in the grille design, the abstract form with rich changes in dense virtual reality and staggered up and down is selected, which is a deconstruction of the landscape artistic conception, and the sketch relationship between the height, shortness, distance and virtual reality of the landscape is presented in the form of abstract and dense staggered movement of the members. At the same time, the folding plate on the upper floor of the main building once again deconstructs the splashed ink and white space in the landscape painting, and realizes the smooth transition of "white and black" with the gradient of the size of the hole, and the outline of the mountain in the ink smoke and rain is like a retreat, it is difficult to identify the boundary, and it seems to be nothing.
Type of Perforated Plate
How to choose the gradient form and the opening style, that is, how to determine the relationship between indoor and outdoor as a kind of "ambiguous privacy and public", similar to the looming before and after the water curtain? After comparison, the designer excluded the "high window" type of up and down small arrangement, and chose the upper and lower large arrangement, forming a visual experience similar to "floor-to-ceiling window", and the line of sight can look outside through the sparse hollow below to achieve the "ambiguous" effect.
- Cornice style Type of Cornice
In the details of the cornice of the water courtyard canopy, in order to fit the flowing and flexible movement of the Chinese landscape, the designer pursues the lightness of "light and thin", and reduces the thickness of the cornice as much as possible. Therefore, in order to eliminate the limitations caused by structural factors, after deliberation, the practice of folding the hemming is finally adopted, and the thickness of the cornice near the edge is reduced to 100mm, and the cornice that is visually seen will appear thinner and lighter.
Type of Pieces
In the stone patchwork treatment of the external wall, in order to reduce the dull visual feeling, the designer cut out the concave patchwork with a 50mm interval between the two pieces of stone, and pressed the gap with reflective metal drop. This not only breaks the visual fatigue of the block surface, but also strengthens the texture of the façade through exquisite details.

In the noisy city, it is independent and creates a small "nature" for people. It creeps quietly, humbly, between buildings, but the moment you walk in, it marvels at your expectations with restrained luxury. It has its seemingly innocent silhouette, it has its warm and ambiguous boundaries, it is a poetic everyday, and it is also a poem written in everyday life. It is short and timeless, it inherits and transforms, it gives the soul of ancient rhyme to a contemporary shell, and it writes the landscape of the world into the creation of the world.
