Born with the peaceful liberation of Hunan, New Hunan Daily was the earliest news organization established by the Communist Party of China in Hunan after liberation. From the "New Hunan Daily" to the "Hunan Daily", this newspaper of the provincial party committee organ that Chairman Mao Zedong wrote three times, adhered to the principles of "the party newspaper is surnamed the party" and "the party newspaper is for the people", and has become a witness, recorder, and disseminator of Hunan revolution, construction, and reform and development, and is known as the "Hunan Diary".

At 3:00 a.m. on March 23, the editorial board of Hunan Daily's night shift signed his name on the duty log to draw a conclusion to the editorial work of the newspaper that day. Soon, the newspaper layout of the day was uploaded to the "Hunan Daily Zero Point" public account.

Zero o'clock is the busiest time for the night editor of Hunan Daily. 72 years ago, at midnight on August 15, 1949, the inaugural issue of the New Hunan Daily was also in the process of intense and busy typesetting. The difference is that at that time, manual word picking and typesetting was required, and now, it only takes the click of the mouse to complete it.

What difficulties and twists and turns did the "New Hunan News", which was born in the smoke of the flames, experience behind its founding? In the rapid development of communication technology, how do Hunan newspaper people stick to their original intentions? These can be found in the Hunan Daily Newspaper History Museum, located at No. 442, Furong Middle Road, Changsha City.

The Newspaper History Museum treasures a copy of the inaugural issue of the New Hunan News, which attracts visitors to stop every time. The yellowed paper and vertical layout seem to tell a story spanning more than 70 years.

On August 15, 1949, the Hunan Provincial Party Committee of the Communist Party of China was founded and published an editorial entitled "Celebrating the Birth of New Hunan". On October 1, 1964, it was renamed "Hunan Daily", which has been used ever since. According to the docent of the Newspaper History Museum, as early as April 1949, Chairman Mao Zedong registered the "New Hunan Daily" for the Hunan Provincial Party Committee organ when he was in Beijing (then called Beiping), in order to distinguish it from the "Hunan Daily" run by the Kuomintang in Changsha and to write the masthead.

In March 1949, with the victorious development of the Liberation War, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to establish the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and appointed Huang Kecheng, secretary of the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee, as the secretary of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee. The Hunan Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government were formally established in Tianjin. Huang Kecheng announced at a meeting: The provincial party committee has decided to set up a provincial party committee organ newspaper, and all the comrades of the former "Mass Daily" in Tianjin and 29 comrades working on the propaganda front in Beiping City will meet in Tianjin and begin to make preparations for running a party newspaper in Hunan in the south.

In May, the team of the New Hunan News traveled south by train from Tianjin with the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and relevant troops. The entire team was named the Xiangjiang Brigade, and the team of the New Hunan News was the Sixth Squadron, led by Zhu Jiusi, who had been the editor-in-chief of Tianjin Daily.

On June 9, after the team arrived in Wuhan, it stayed for 37 days. During this period, the press corps was expanded, preparations for the publication of the "New Hunan News" were carried out, and speeches and press releases publicizing the party's principles and policies that could be published for 10 consecutive days were compiled. President Li Rui arrived and personally wrote an editorial entitled "Celebrating the Birth of New Hunan".

On August 5, Changsha declared its peaceful liberation. After entering the city, the team of the New Hunan Daily first met with the comrades of the underground party and took over the equipment and some personnel of the former Central Daily (Hunan Edition) located on Cai Yi Middle Road, using this as the headquarters of the company. The personnel were separated from No. 1, No. 1, Xizi Gongzhuang and No. 261 Jingwu Road.

After intense preparations, on August 15, the inaugural issue of New Hunan Daily was officially launched, with a total of 4 editions, and the first issue printed 2,000 copies, which was twice as much as the past Central Daily (Hunan Edition).

"New Hunan News was launched! Come and see! In the early morning of August 15, many newsboys and the crowd gathered at the entrance of the printing plant, cheering and rushing to read the freshly baked newspaper.

"New Hunan News" is the birthplace of Hunan's news and publishing industry after the founding of New China. In the early days of its founding, he was also in charge of the Hunan Branch of Xinhua News Agency. Li Rui, the first president of The New Hunan Daily, concurrently served as the first director of the Hunan branch of Xinhua News Agency. The newspaper also dispatched cadres to help establish the Hunan People's Radio Station and the Hunan People's Publishing House. The second president, Zhu Jiusi, also served as the first director of Hunan People's Radio.

The history of the development and growth of Hunan Daily is also the epitome of the vigorous development of Hunan Newspaper. At present, Hunan Daily has developed into a new media matrix covering 8 newspapers and 2 periodicals, 10 news websites, and more than 100 "two micro and one end" represented by the new Hunan client.

In the Hunan Daily Newspaper History Museum, two pieces of anti-epidemic protective clothing full of signatures are particularly eye-catching, and on them are the signatures of members of the Hunan Aid Hubei Huanggang Medical Team and journalists. During the fight against the new crown pneumonia epidemic in 2020, Hunan Daily sent a reporting team to Huanggang, Hubei Province. This precious commemoration is a testimony to the era of Hunan Daily's record.

From "lead and fire", to "light and electricity", and then to "cloud and micro", what has changed is the communication technology and means, and what has not changed is the original intention of generations of Hunan newspaper people to "shoulder morality with iron shoulders and write articles with clever hands".

General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that under the conditions of the new era, the responsibility and mission of the party's news and public opinion work are: hold high the banner, lead the way, focus on the center, serve the overall situation, unite the people, boost morale, become a weathered person, unite the heart, clarify fallacies, distinguish between right and wrong, connect China and foreign countries, and communicate with the world. The new generation of Hunan newspaper people should shoulder the responsibilities and missions entrusted by the new era, be the mouthpiece of the party and the people, adhere to the correct orientation, constantly reform and innovate, and walk in the forefront in promoting the integration and development of the media, so that the party's voice can spread wider, wider, and deeper.

Chairman Mao wrote the masthead for the Hunan Daily three times

Chairman Mao wrote the masthead for the Hunan Daily three times, leaving a good story in the history of the party's journalism.

On April 30, 1949, entrusted by Huang Kecheng, Zhu Jiusi and Zhang Shijun went to a small courtyard at the east gate of Zhongnanhai, Nanchang Street, Beiping, found Chairman Mao's secretary Hu Qiaomu, and asked Chairman Mao to write a masthead for the upcoming "Hunan Daily."

Chairman Mao was very happy to hear that his hometown was going to publish a newspaper, so he splashed ink and wrote down the four words "New Hunan News." Chairman Mao said that the Kuomintang had a copy of the Hunan Daily in Changsha, so the New Hunan Daily was used to distinguish the Kuomintang's Hunan Daily.

The second time Chairman Mao wrote the masthead for the Hunan Daily was in March 1960, when Chairman Mao was inspecting the south and took a special train from Guangzhou to Changsha.

On March 12, chairman Mao, when meeting zhang Pinghua, secretary of the Hunan provincial party committee, said that he thought the masthead he had originally inscribed appeared dull and planned to rewrite one. He immediately wrote the second masthead of the New Hunan News, which was opened on March 19, 1960.

In July 1964, when Chairman Mao inspected Hunan, he proposed to change the "New Hunan Daily" to "Hunan Daily" and wrote the masthead for the "Hunan Daily" for the third time.

He also wrote a letter to Zhang Pinghua, secretary of the Hunan Provincial CPC Committee, to this end: "Comrade Pinghua: The masthead of the new Hunan newspaper is not well written, and it is advisable to change it to Hunan Daily, so as to be consistent with Hubei Daily." Now I have written more than one sheet, I don't know if it is available? If not available, fall back to rewrite. If available, it is advisable to change it on this year's National Day. Please decide. ”

From October 1, 1964, the New Hunan Daily officially launched the new registration of Hunan Daily, which has been used ever since.
