Chen Xun, the former vice mayor of Beihai City, Guangxi Province, was accused of accepting bribes of 18.0146 million yuan

Chongzuo, 9 Sep (Xinhua) -- On 9 September, the bribery case of Chen Xun, former vice mayor of Beihai City, Guangxi Province, was tried in open court at the Intermediate People's Court of Chongzuo City, Guangxi Province.

According to the Chongzhou Intermediate People's Court, the case was sponsored by Lu Hongming, president of the Chongzuo Intermediate People's Court and a second-level senior judge, and served as the presiding judge; the Chongzuo City People's Procuratorate sent personnel to appear in court to support the public prosecution; and the defendant Chen Xun and his defender attended the court to participate in the proceedings.

The Chongzuo Municipal People's Procuratorate alleged that from 2006 to 2020, defendant Chen Xun took advantage of his position as director of the Guangxi Beihai City Industrial Park Management Committee and vice mayor of the Beihai Municipal People's Government to provide assistance to 16 people, including Liang Mouling, Luo Mouqiang, and Chen Mouguang, in the contracting of engineering projects, the allocation of project funds, land requisition and demolition, and the purchase and construction of factories by enterprises in the park, and accepted money from the above-mentioned personnel totaling 18.0146 million yuan, and requested that they be investigated for criminal responsibility for accepting bribes.

During the trial, the public prosecution organ presented documentary evidence, witness testimony, defendant confessions and other relevant evidence in court, the defendant Chen Xun and his defender conducted cross-examination, the prosecution and defense fully expressed their opinions under the auspices of the court, Chen Xun made a final statement, and expressed his guilt and punishment in court and sincere remorse.

At the end of the trial, the court adjourned the trial and announced the verdict at a later date.
