After entering West Point at the age of 22, Pershing soon became a member of the cavalry unit, and Pershing's fame in the army was very high, especially Pershing's equal treatment of black soldiers, which gave Pershing a higher degree of attention. Pershing himself won a lot of rights for black soldiers, and he also showed bravery in fighting, and he performed highly in Cuba, the Philippines, Japan, and Pershing.

Roosevelt the elder promoted Pershing to brigadier general in 1906, and Johnson later regarded Pershing as a beloved general. After the outbreak of World War I, the United States dragged on for three years before declaring war, and Pershing was the supreme commander of the Expeditionary Force. After the end of World War I, Pershing's fame was not inferior to that of Eisenhower after World War II, and it seemed that Pershing's life was simply perfect.

But Pershing himself did not think so, in 1916, Pershing's home was killed by a fire, including his wife and three daughters, leaving only his son to live with each other.
