The elf of the night, the fireflies

author:UU follows my heart

Summer is here, and the little elves of the night, the fireflies, are starting to fly. Under the dark blue sky, fireflies danced over the grass, which was very beautiful. The fireflies flashed like stars falling from the sky.

The kids were curious, why did these little guys have a little lantern on their butt? How do they light these little lanterns?

We caught a few fireflies and put them in glass bottles. Fireflies were found to have a small head, an orange thorax, a slender, slightly flattened body with a bluish-green sheen, a pair of antennae with small teeth on the head divided into 11 bars, and a pair of dark hard shell wings on the back, and a pair of membranous wings that could be retracted. The fireflies also have three pairs of slender feet that climb up very quickly.

Fireflies have no electricity, how does it emit light? We picked up a firefly and looked closely: its belly was flattened by a hard shell, and its chest was divided into three small plates, and three pairs of feet were grown on these three small plates. The abdomen is divided into six segments, and there is also a triangular tail, and only the two sections of the abdomen next to the tail glow, that is, the "little lantern" of the firefly.

Dad said that the female fireflies also have a small spot on each side of the tail, which can also emit light.
