Huasheng Online Changsha News (Xiaoxiang Morning News reporter Li Tang intern Zhou Shanshan) A large number of caterpillars suddenly appeared on a black tree in the community, even on the walls and doors of buildings close to the trees, and even in the homes of residents on the lower floors. On July 7, the reporter came to the Liaojiawan Red Flag District Community on Ziyuan Road in Changsha and saw that the branches and trunks of many caterpillars had become bare, and the leaves had been bitten. The staff of the Yuhua District Garden Management Bureau said that the increase in caterpillars is related to the recent rainfall, and the garden department will increase the control of diseases and insect pests and spray insecticides.

The reporter just walked into the Hongqi District community smelled a strong smell of medicine, in the community, a tall tree, there are few leaves left, the branches have been cut down almost. On the remaining branches, there are still some broken leaves that have been bitten by insects. The floor was also cleaned, and there was no garbage such as bugs and worm droppings. The staff of the community told reporters that the relevant person in charge of the Garden and Forestry Bureau has brought people to spray pesticides, and the situation has been controlled.

Mr. Guo, a resident, said that about five or six days ago, there were a lot of caterpillars on this tree, and because the tree was large, caterpillars fell everywhere, and the whole road was almost there. Residents had to walk around the side, afraid that the caterpillar would fall on them. Even the homes of residents who are closer to each other have them. The reporter saw many dead caterpillars in the corners of the residential buildings and in the homes of some residents.

Because there are too many caterpillars, the surrounding residents dare not open the door and open the window at will, and sometimes pass under the tree or at the door of the building, and they have to hold an umbrella. The reporter learned from the Liao Jiawan community that the staff had previously reflected this situation to the garden department. According to community workers, this caterpillar, called the stinging moth larvae, feeds exclusively on the eucalyptus trees in the community. The community reported this to the Garden And Forestry Bureau and recommended that the black oak tree that attracted insects be removed.

The staff of the Yuhua District Garden bureau explained that they had indeed received feedback from the community before, and they sprayed insecticidal treatment. However, because there has been more rain recently, it is easy to breed insect pests in the sweltering heat and humidity, and there will be more caterpillars. "And if it rains all the time, it will also affect the effect of spraying, and the potion will be washed away by the rain." The staff said that the spraying of the potion must be on a sunny day, and after spraying the drug, it will remain sunny for two days before the drug can fully function.

The staff said that because this tree did not have necrosis, tilting and other problems, it could not be cut down casually, and the cutting and transplanting of trees were subject to approval according to regulations. "We will increase the intensity of drug spraying and increase the control of pests and diseases."
