Place names are the geographical imprint and humanistic imprint of each city.
As the city center of Guangzhou for more than 2,200 years, the names of ancient streets and alleys naturally carry a heavy history.
You might as well take the treasure book "Exploring the Ancient Streets and Alleys of Yuexiu" and stroll through the ancient streets and alleys of Yuexiu, feel the historical charm and cultural atmosphere of Guangzhou, and experience the tranquility and simplicity that is different from the modern urban atmosphere.
In the first two issues, we introduced the story of the place names of Dade Road and Shuangmendi (click on the horizontal text to view the content), and today we walked into Sima Street together to explore its origin with Sima Chung.
The serpentine meandering scenery is beautiful,
The poet rose up to swim in the river.
The smoke and clouds of the high cart and the horse go,
On this day, the building shines on the windows.
On the north side of the east section of Xihua Road in Yuexiu District, there is a street called "Sima Street". During the Qing Dynasty, there were a number of alleys here, including the Horse Bridge, the Horse Straight Street and the Horse Lane (these two lanes still existed until the 80s of the 20th century), and the Horse Workshop (renamed the Horse Workshop in 1982). The name of these "horses" comes from the fact that they are close to the horses.
In ancient times, the horses bent and bent like spiritual snakes, and the flowers and trees were prosperous, which can be called a place with excellent scenery. From the Han Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty, officials who came to Guangzhou by boat from the north all took the Zengpo River, entered the Si Ma Chung, and landed at the Zhu Chuan O (Shi Cui Chau) near the Si Ma Bridge.
During the Tang Dynasty, Shicuizhou and the official pavilion named Jinting on the shore were also very famous. The famous Tang Dynasty poet Tortoise Meng has "Fenghe attacked the United States to send Li Mingfu to Ren Nanhai" poem:
The official of the end of spring until autumn,
In the depths of the mountains, the clouds are based on the tower.
People love to sink near Zhupu,
Waiters come to pick up Cuizhou.
Because there are many high-ranking officials coming and going on this spring, people often see four horse-drawn carts (horses) on the bank of the river to greet them, so they named this spring as the horse spring. In the Southern Han Dynasty, the rainbow bridge was built on the northwest of the horse bridge, and the scenery in this area was more beautiful. It is said that in the Song Dynasty, a descendant of Confucius moved south from Shaoguan, and when they came to the side of Ximayong and saw the charming scenery, they did not want to go again, and built a building and garden here, and lived here.
At the end of the Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, Zhao Jie, who was famous in the poetry circle, came to the bank of the horse to enjoy the small bridge and was fascinated, and jumped into the river to swim on a whim.
Zhao Jie (1343-1389), the name Bozhen, a native of Panyu, was known as Mr. Linqing. He studied diligently since he was a child and was talented, but he didn't want to be an official, and he didn't like to be close to officials and nobles. The magistrate recommended him many times to become an official, and he thanked him all of them. He taught his son well, because the fourth son Zhao Chun later became an official and had quite a political achievement, and the imperial court posthumously presented his father Zhao Jie as the "supervision of the imperial history".
At the end of the Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, Zhao Jie often gathered with Sun Xi'an, Wang Zuo, Li De, Huang Zhe and other elegant gatherings in the South Park Anti-Feng Xuan (near the Juxian Fang on Wende South Road today), opening the majestic and upright style of the Lingnan poetry circle, known as the "Five Sons of the South Garden".
Zhao Jie has poems and horses, and it can be known that there is still a horse in the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties:
The broken bridge breaks through a hundred steps away, when the whip stone drives the long bridge.
The dragon drinks water and the autumn moon, and the beetle locks the twilight tide in the sky.
There is no one in this column to steed the horse, and the sunset has a guest orchid.
The donkey is slippery and slippery, just like the spring color of the bridge.
Zeng Rong
After being named the king of Pingnan and the queen of Jingnan, the two kings each occupied the territory and raised horses, Geng Jimao occupied the west of the city, grazing horses in the area of Ximazhi Street and the west, so that the scenery of Ximayong was also ruined. At that time, the government advocated horse breeding, and built a Sima Temple in the west of the Horse Straight Street, and later there were two streets in front of the Sima Temple and Sima Fang.
At the end of the 20th century, high-rise buildings were built in the area of the former Pony Bridge, and we can only imagine the prosperous scene of high-rise cars and horses coming and going on the side of the Pony Chung.
