On October 18, Beijing time, Japan Kanazawa Table Tennis Club recently announced through official social media that it had signed a contract with Chinese player Cheng Jingqi, who will represent the team in the 2024-2025 season of the Japan T-League.
This is Cheng's second consecutive season with Kanazawa Table Tennis Club, and his teammates last season included Chinese Taipei's Liao Zhenjing, Korea's Zhao Shengmin, and local player Kenta Matsudaira. Because the overall strength of the team is not too outstanding, and there is no strong "single", it finally failed to rank among the top four in the regular season and advance to the semifinals. In the new season, Kanazawa Club has increased investment, not only introducing the current "first brother" Zhang Yuzhen of the Korea table tennis team, but also two other Korea foreign helpers Park Kyuxuan and Kang Dongsu, and the local players have retained the former national player Kenta Matsudaira, signed the powerful Tanaka Yutai, and now signed a contract with Chinese player Cheng Jingqi, which is expected to achieve better results.
Cheng Jingqi, born in 1994, combined with a left-handed horizontal board arc and fast attack play, was also a genius debut, and at the age of 16, he ranked among the top six in the Chinese table tennis team's intra-team round-robin and rose to the first team. Like most of the teammates of the 92-95 echelon of the national table tennis men's team, Cheng Jingqi was also affected by changes in the manufacturing process of the ball, and the results of the senior team were far less than expected. Not long ago, Cheng Jingqi revealed in the live broadcast that he was withdrawn from the Hebei table tennis team, on the grounds that he was "giving way" to the young players, which once caused an uproar.
Compared with other teammates who had no ball to play and could only retire after being retired, Cheng Jingqi, who participated in the variety show recording and was known as "Sun Yingsha's senior brother", obviously had a much better situation, he received an olive branch from Zheng Peifeng, a former national team teammate who served as a coach in the Fujian table tennis team after retiring, on the one hand, he represented the Fujian team to play domestic games, and on the other hand, he also sought the opportunity to stay abroad to participate in overseas competitions, and continue his sports career in his own way. It is worth mentioning that the Japan T-League has begun for a short time, and Cheng Jingqi is expected to go to Japan to join the team after playing the National Table Tennis Championship.
