Respecting, loving, and respecting the elderly are excellent traditional virtues of the Chinese nation. In order to promote this virtue and enhance the sense of social responsibility, on the afternoon of October 13, the Jintan District Mao Donkey Volunteer Association and the college student volunteers of the School of Mathematics of Hohai University carried out a volunteer activity for the elderly at the mutual aid and good-neighborly point of Jin'an Community in Xicheng Street.
At the beginning of the activity, the volunteers first taught the elderly to practice finger Baduanjin in batches, and they patiently demonstrated each movement, and the old people followed the learning attentively and moved their wrists together. Then, the volunteers led the elderly to play fun games. In the game, the joints and limbs of the elderly were fully mobilized, they thought positively, participated enthusiastically, and their faces were full of cheerful smiles. Through this round of games, it not only brought joy to the elderly, but also made them deeply appreciate the community's care for the elderly.
After the first event, it was time for the elderly to have a collective meal. Volunteers took the initiative to maintain the order of the queue and ensure that the elderly people cooked in an orderly manner. After the meal, they quickly cleaned up the tableware and tabletop, showing a high sense of social responsibility and dedication. Throughout the process, the volunteers also talked with the elderly people, listened to their voices and answered their questions. The elderly shared their life experiences, and the volunteers listened attentively, feeling the accumulation of years and the inheritance of wisdom.
The three-hour volunteer activity was fleeting, but its impact was far-reaching. For the elderly, they feel the care and warmth of the society, and no longer feel lonely and lonely. For the volunteers, this event is a valuable life experience. In the context of an aging population, the volunteers are acutely aware of the responsibilities that society has entrusted to contemporary college students. They said that caring for the elderly is not only a virtue, but also a mission. Through this activity, they learned to care for others and contribute to society, and also inspired more students to actively participate in volunteer services for the elderly. In the next step, they will continue to join hands with the Mao Donkey Volunteer Association to pass on the traditional virtues of loving, respecting and respecting the elderly, and create a warmer and better life for the elderly in their old age.
