On October 9, a thrilling life-and-death rescue was staged in the Department of Pediatric II of the People's Hospital of Wuhan University (Hubei Provincial People's Hospital). A 2-year-old girl is in critical condition due to plastic bronchitis, which is blocked by a large amount of jelly-like secretions, resulting in almost the entire loss of lung function. After being urgently transferred to Wuhan, Professor Jiang Yi's team made every effort to rescue and finally saved his life.
On the morning of the 9th, a pediatrician from a county hospital in Hubei Province urgently communicated with Professor Jiang Yi of the Department of Pediatrics II of the People's Hospital of Wuhan University (Hubei Provincial People's Hospital) through online remote consultation. Professor Jiang Yi quickly judged that the child had a serious lung disease and must be treated immediately. However, due to the limited medical conditions in the area, the child was immediately transferred to the pediatric department of Wuhan University People's Hospital.
Immediately, Professor Jiang Yi activated the emergency response mechanism, and Liu Miao, the head of the department, quickly opened up a "green channel" for the child to save his life. Under the tense and orderly arrangement, only about 2 hours later, the child was urgently transferred to the People's Hospital of Wuhan University.
The medical staff of the Department of Pediatrics II, who were on standby, quickly admitted the child to the emergency room and carried out treatment. When the family was interviewed, it was learned that the child's family lived in a rural area and the cough had lasted for more than a week due to co-infection, but the family did not pay attention to it and only routinely used cough medicine to deal with it. It was not until the child was mentally depressed that he was sent to the hospital for examination, and the result was that it had progressed to a serious lung disease, and the best time for early treatment was missed.
In order to save this young life, Professor Jiang Yi led the team to urgently conduct relevant examinations for the child before she was admitted to the hospital. After diagnosis, it was confirmed that the child had plastic bronchitis, a severe lung infection, almost complete loss of function in the left lung, and significant inflammation in the right lung. In order to restore the child's respiratory function as soon as possible, Professor Jiang Yi decided to perform electronic bronchoscopic alveolar lavage for her.
During the operation, the doctors found that the child's lungs were filled with a large amount of jelly-like secretions, which were tightly entrenched in the bronchi like stubborn "roots", severely blocking the airway. Two doctors, Chen Jiangnan and Liang Zhangwu, operated an electronic bronchoscope to remove these "tree roots" for the child and unblock the airway as early as possible. In the process of treatment, the medical staff worked closely together, and every action was precise and efficient. After intense treatment, the secretions in the child's lungs were basically cleared, the condition was initially controlled, the breathing gradually stabilized, and the vital signs also tended to be stable. This means that the child is pulled back from the brink of life and death.
After the operation, under the careful monitoring and care of the medical staff, the child's condition gradually improved, the breathing and blood oxygen also tended to be stable, and the mental state and appetite were also significantly enhanced. The parents rushed back to Wuhan from other places and expressed their gratitude to the pediatric II medical team for their timely treatment and superb medical skills.
Professor Jiang Yi introduced that plastic bronchitis is a disease in which endogenous foreign bodies (such as lung effusion, etc.) partially or extensively block the bronchi, which is one of the acute and critical diseases in pediatrics. The disease usually has a rapid onset and, if left untreated, can cause widespread bronchial blockage, leading to acute severe respiratory distress, chest pain, cough and other symptoms. In severe cases, it may also lead to respiratory and circulatory failure due to hypoxia, which is life-threatening. He reminded parents that children suffer from more infectious diseases and their manifestations are atypical. If you find that your child has symptoms such as cough and lack of energy, you should go to the hospital as soon as possible.
