8,583 accounts involved in emergencies and rumor-mongering in the field of social and people's livelihood were investigated and punished

The reporter learned from the Cyberspace Administration of the People's Republic of China that recently, some online accounts have fabricated rumors in the fields of public policy, social livelihood, and emergencies by creating things out of nothing, transferring flowers and trees, and stirring up old news, seriously misleading netizens' cognition, causing public panic, and affecting social harmony and stability. The internet information departments are to guide website platforms to continue to increase the force of monitoring and handling, promptly tracing the source and closing the accounts that first published rumors, and disposing of a total of 8,583 accounts that violate laws and regulations.

The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) reported some typical cases, including rumors that "15 abducted children were found in refrigerated trucks", rumors that "international students will enjoy six major policy supports, including applying for self-financed study scholarships", rumors that "you can receive '2024 personal labor subsidies' by scanning the QR code", and rumors that "Chongqing's traffic lights are hot".
