Red Army Martyrs Cemetery

On the second morning after the autumn equinox in the year of Jiachen, the sun shines on the land of Zunyi, the sound of autumn adds refreshment, and the autumn sun warms the heart. With great admiration, we walked together to the Red Army Martyrs Cemetery located at the foot of Phoenix Mountain in Zunyi City. Sitting in the cemetery facing north and facing south, facing the beautiful Xiangjiang River in front, leaning on the verdant Phoenix Mountain in the back, and the Red Flower Gang and Lao Ya Mountain where the Red Army fought in the past are far away.

The two sides of the main entrance of the cemetery are built into walls with mountain stone barriers, and the wall reliefs on the left and right sides are more than ten meters wide and more than three meters high, presenting a lifelike portrait of the Red Army fighting group. Reading it carefully, a remarkable, magnificent, and vast picture of revolutionary history slowly unfolded in front of my eyes, which made me think about it and be in awe.

The sunlight shines through the cracks in the green forest and dapples the stone steps leading to the cemetery's memorial site, and we listen to the guide's commentary as we climb the stairs. From her mouth, she learned that the entire staircase was laid in 12 groups, with a total of 316 steps. The first group is 3 steps, which means that the Zunyi meeting lasts for 3 days. From the 2nd group to the 11th group, each group is 28 steps, which means that from 1921 to 1949, the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army under the leadership of the Communist Party of China won the victory of the national revolution for 28 years. The last group is level 33, which has a variety of meanings, some of which are taken from Mao Zedong's poem "Mountain, fast horse whip without saddle." Looking back, 33 in "Three Feet from the Sky".

When a companion walked on the high and steep steps and looked up at the monument that towered into the sky, he was deterred by the steps and sighed: "It's too steep, I can't catch my breath!" How to climb? "At that time, although I was over half a hundred years old, I did not feel afraid of difficulties, because the spirit of the Red Army's Long March gave me the motivation to climb the steep steps.

After climbing the daunting steps like a ladder, I arrived at the flat field of the cemetery, a majestic and unique shape of the Red Army martyrs monument stands in front of me, the monument body is made of "starry sky" marble, the monument is 25 meters high, and the 5-meter-high golden party emblem is inlaid at the top of the monument. On the front of the monument is the inscription of Deng Xiaoping on November 2, 1984, "The Red Army martyrs are immortal", which is engraved with 8 large characters in gold. On the periphery of the monument is a large ring, and the outer wall of the ring is inlaid with 28 shining stars, symbolizing that the Communist Party of China has seized power in the country after 28 years of hard struggle. The inner wall of the ring is 4 groups of white marble reliefs, and the scenes presented are "forcibly crossing the Wujiang River", "Zunyi people welcoming the Red Army", "Loushanguan victory" and "four crossings of Chishui". The four 5-meter-high Red Army heads are used as pillars to support the large ring, and the heads carved out of purple granite stone are connected by hanging rings, the southeast side is the image of the old Red Army, the southwest side is the image of the Young Red Army, the northeast side is the image of the Red Guards, and the northwest side is the image of the female Red Army, which embodies the Red Army's might.

In the mountains and jungles, the autumn breeze is cool, and it is very pleasant. I watched carefully around the ring, climbed the snow-capped mountains, crossed the grassland, fought the Xiangjiang River, crossed the Chishui, and won the Loushan Pass....... The historical scenes of the Red Army soldiers throwing their heads and spilling their blood like steel men, as well as the scenes of the Long March described in the poem "The Red Army is not afraid of difficult expeditions, thousands of rivers and mountains are just waiting for leisure, the five mountains are soaring and the waves are soaring, and the Wumeng is majestic and walking mud pills" all flashed in my mind. Stopping at the martyrs' cemetery, my heart could not be calm for a long time, my heart was shocked and baptized, and I sighed: With its fearless revolutionary spirit and tenacious will, the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army created the miracle of the 25,000-mile Long March, built the Great Wall of the soul of the Chinese nation, and created the spirit of the Long March of perseverance and self-improvement. Admire!

The guide continued to lead us through the jungle shaded by green pines and cypresses, and climbed the stairs. "This is to build a tomb for Deng Ping with the red sandstone of Zunyi, she is a chief of staff of the Red Third Army, loyal, brave and good at fighting, she finally sacrificed her precious life for the party......" The guide told the heroic deeds, and we bowed and mourned in silence in front of the tomb to show our deep affection.

We approached the "Red Army Martyrs' Wall" again, and saw that the wall was inlaid with stone tablets engraved with the names, hometowns, ages and other information of 1,338 martyrs. Gazing at the martyrs' wall, I fell into deep thought: although more than 1,000 Red Army martyrs have been buried in this corner of the red land, their dedication to sacrificing their lives for the revolution will forever be engraved in the history of the Chinese revolution.

There is also a bluestone round tomb on the mountain, and there is a stone tablet standing in front of the tomb, and there are three big characters of "Red Army Tomb" written on it. Inside is buried a Red Army health worker who was brutally killed by reactionaries for the treatment of the people of Zunyi. In front of the "Red Army Grave" stands a huge bronze statue, which is the female hygienist of the Red Army leaning on a sick boy in her arms.

"When the Red Army's Long March came to Zunyi in 1935, there was a female hygienist under the age of 20 in the outpost company stationed in Sangmuya on the outskirts of the city. When her comrades-in-arms were busy fighting local tyrants and distributing food and materials to the toiling masses, she went to the villages and alleys to see doctors, deliver medicines, and give injections to the common people. The guide said that the female hygienist was finally shot dead at the entrance of Sangmuya Village, and in order to repay her kindness, the people buried her body on the side of the road on the spot, because they did not know her place of origin and name, the masses called it the "Red Army Grave". In 1958, the "Red Army Grave" was moved here, in the hearts of the local people, the "Red Army Grave" became the "Red Army Bodhisattva" who rescued the suffering, the visitors in front of the statue are burning incense and mourning, touching the statue to seek physical harm, and the incense is constantly lingering here for more than 60 years.

Zunyi Red Army Martyrs Memorial Cemetery is a garden-style memorial park integrating homage, commemoration, sightseeing, education and other functions. During our visit to the cemetery, there was an endless stream of units and individuals who came to carry out educational activities on revolutionary traditions and to visit.

Autumn cemetery, the sky is blue, the sun is shining, the purple air is curling, the green pines are lush, the green cypress is verdant, the forest is bursting, and the birds are singing. Every grass, tree, stone, brick, monument and wall here seems to be telling people the story of the Long March that happened here 89 years ago and the great achievements of the martyrs.
