Recently, the Zichuan Branch of the Zibo Public Security Bureau
A particularly large case of making and selling pirated primary and secondary school textbooks was detected
29 suspects were arrested
The value of the case amounted to more than 3,100 yuan.
Piracy is of poor quality and more expensive than the original
"The smell of ink is big, I feel dizzy and nauseous after watching it for a long time, it's too childish!" At the beginning of this year, Ms. Li, who lives in Zichuan District, Zibo City, found that the paper of a third-grade Chinese textbook she bought for her child online was very soft and light. And this textbook was purchased by her at a store with top sales on an online shopping platform.
After communicating with other students' parents, Ms. Li learned that the price of the textbook she bought from the bookstore was 7.63 yuan, while the price of the book she bought from the Internet was 13.88 yuan, and it was still a discounted price. "Piracy is still more expensive than the genuine version, and the quality is still so poor!" After Ms. Li reported to the relevant authorities, the book was identified as a pirated book.
In April this year, the case was transferred to the Zichuan Branch of the Zibo Public Security Bureau for handling. The Zichuan Public Security Bureau quickly set up a special team to investigate, and after conducting in-depth research and judgment on the online store information and related data, it was determined that Zhang, the actual controller of the store, was suspected of committing a major crime. However, when the case was making initial progress, the store abruptly removed all the books from the shelves.
Through further investigation, the police of the special case group found that Zhang used a false identity to open an online store, and the online store was used for 1 to 2 months, often operating at key points in time (such as before the start of school), and closing the store after it was sold out.
Subsequently, the police officers who handled the case carried out online and offline double-line verification in multiple ways, and successively identified the two storage dens of the suspect Zhang and the other three online stores he operated, and dug out the suspect Cao and other accomplices who were responsible for the source of the book printing.
At this point, an extraordinarily large criminal gang headed by Zhang and Cao that was illegally engaged in printing, packaging, warehousing, sales, and transportation of pirated books surfaced.
After investigation, since March 2023, Zhang and Cao have pirated and printed a large number of primary and secondary school textbooks, sold pirated textbooks and books in the name of genuine books, and mailed them through a non-local courier company, with a value of more than 3,100 yuan.
Up to now, the task force has smashed a total of 3 sales dens and 1 printing source, seized a set of offset printing equipment worth 3.6 million yuan, and seized more than 60,000 pirated textbooks and more than 150,000 illegal publications.
