Yesterday, Times Higher Education released its World University Rankings 2025.
泰晤士高等教育世界大学排名(Times Higher Education World University Ranking)是由英国《泰晤士高等教育》(Times Higher Education,简称THE)发布的世界大学排名。
With 2,860 universities from 133 countries and territories on the list this year, a total of 2,092 universities from 115 countries and territories are included in the list, marking the largest increase in the number of universities in the World University Rankings 2025 and the largest increase in the number of universities in the past five years. With 737 universities in the rankings, Asia is the most engaged continent and the region with the fastest improvement in teaching and research quality.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings measure the overall strength of universities in terms of teaching, research, citations, industry income and degree of internationalisation, and are regarded as one of the most authoritative world university rankings.
Overall Rankings:
The University of Oxford is the highest-ranked university in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, Stanford University is second in the world, the highest-ranked United States university, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is ranked third.
The top 10 are all universities in the UK and the US.
Universities in China:
This year, Chinese mainland universities have shown an overall upward trend in global rankings. Tsinghua University is the highest-ranked university in Chinese mainland and 12th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024. The second largest university in Chinese mainland is Peking University, at 13th.
The two universities beat the United States universities such as Penn, Columbia, UCLA, and Cornell University.
Chinese mainland has two universities in the top 20, seven in the top 100 and 13 in the top 200.
In addition to Tsinghua University and Peking University, other universities in Chinese mainland that ranked in the top 100 of last year's World University Rankings have also achieved impressive results:
Shanghai Jiao Tong University: Dropped to 52nd from 43rd last year
Fudan University: Rose to 36th from 44th last year
Zhejiang University: Rose from 55th last year to joint 47th
University of Science and Technology of China: 53rd from 57th last year
Nanjing University: Rose to 65th from a tie for 73rd last year
Hong Kong, China remains one of the regions with the highest concentration of top universities in the world, with the University of Hong Kong ranked 35th in the world, with a total of 5 universities in the top 100 and 6 universities in the top 350.
Universities in Germany:
A total of 50 Germany universities are listed in the 2025 list, and 20 Germany universities are listed in the Top200, one less than last year.
From the perspective of the top universities, the Technical University of Munich, which ranks first in Germany, is ranked 26th in the world! It has set a new record high in the school's ranking in the last decade or so.
