Located a short walk from Grand Central Terminal is 685 Third Avenue, which has recently been renovated to infuse customers and visitors with a sense of wellness. From the height of the basement level to the ceiling of three floors, it is important to maintain consistent brightness throughout the space while not allowing any oppressive effects from the low ceiling space. This is achieved through the photometric study of the downward spotlight of the space and the implementation of the presence of a creative light outside the visible plane. One architectural feature that allows us to explore this phenomenon is the grid array of columns. To create a sense of dimensionality, we coordinated the recessed lighting by wrapping hidden tunable white luminaires around the ceiling details of each column. This creates the visual effect of a flat surface beyond the ceiling, with each pillar stretching infinitely towards the sky.

Plant life is important to customers, but it becomes a challenge due to the lack of sunlight. After thorough research, Solar Technology became a clear solution; A standardized 3000K warm white downlight is provided with an added layer of plant growth support. Solar technology-equipped luminaires mimic sunlight by emitting a full spectrum of light to support growth and accurate color rendering, while improving health and enhancing cognitive performance.

To enhance our approach to the project's well-being, an amenity space was built and allowed for users to breathe and enjoy a moment of relaxation. This is achieved through an open-lit ceiling with minimal structural elements. The lights in this space change from cool white to warm white throughout the day to relieve stress on the body's circadian rhythm
