According to records, in the early nineties of the last century, the river embankment of Chongming Island was still dominated by earthen embankments. It is gratifying that since the late nineties, the construction of the sea pond on Chongming Island has entered the fast lane of the standard project, which has fundamentally solved the hidden dangers of weak safety and low anti-erosion ability of Chongming soil embankment, and greatly improved the stability and safety of the embankment.

"For example, in terms of external improvement work, the hardware facilities of the sea pond will be gradually upgraded step by step through the construction of the sea pond to meet the standards, and the ancillary facilities of the sea pond will be optimized, such as planting green in the tidal flats, including the reconstruction of the culvert area, and the successive development of the dam and dam collapse protection projects on the outside of the main structure of the sea pond, and strengthening from the outside."
