"Garbage is a misplaced resource, the only resource on earth that is constantly growing and never going to run out!" This is the famous assertion of the chief expert of the United Nations Environment Programme. Among the waste components, the resources that can be directly recycled account for 42.9% of the total waste. However, for a long time, most of the garbage disposal uses the traditional landfill method, occupying tens of thousands of acres of land, mosquitoes and flies flying around, smelling and polluting the environment. Garbage sorting and recycling can reduce the amount of garbage disposed, reduce the cost of treatment, and reduce the consumption of land resources. Therefore, garbage classification has social, economic and ecological benefits.

Four major classifications
At present, China's domestic waste can generally be divided into four categories: recyclable waste, kitchen waste, hazardous waste and other waste.

Recyclables
Definition:
Recyclables (renewable resources) refer to items that can be reprocessed into raw materials for production or reused after processing, mainly including waste paper, plastics, glass, metals, electronic waste, fabrics, etc.
Main types:
Waste paper – newspapers, cartons, books, magazines, books, other clean paper, milk pouches in Tetra Pak packages, beverage cartons (to be rinsed and dried).
Plastics - all kinds of plastic beverage bottles, plastic oil drums, plastic basins (boxes).
Glass - glass bottles, flat glass, mirrors.
Metals - aluminum cans, all kinds of metal kitchenware, tableware, utensils, and other civil metal products.
E-waste – all kinds of household appliances.
Fabrics – tablecloths, clothes, school bags, etc.

Food waste
Definition:
Kitchen waste in the narrow sense is a kind of organic waste, which is divided into cooked kitchen waste (leftovers, leftovers, leaves) and raw kitchen waste (peel, eggshell, tea residue, bone, shell), and kitchen waste in the broad sense refers to the source of raw materials and finished products (cooked food) or residues needed in the family life diet, as well as used chopsticks, food packaging materials, etc.

Hazardous waste
Definition:
Toxic and hazardous waste refers to waste that contains heavy metals, toxic substances that are harmful to human health, or waste that causes actual or potential harm to the environment.
These include:
Waste medicines, waste pesticides, waste disinfectants, waste paints, waste solvents, waste mineral oil, waste cosmetics, waste films, waste photographic paper, waste fluorescent tubes, waste thermometers, waste blood pressure monitors, waste rechargeable batteries, waste button batteries, alkaline batteries, lithium batteries, nickel-cadmium batteries, etc.

Other garbage
Definition:
Including waste that is difficult to recycle in addition to the above types of garbage, it is usually disposed of by incineration or landfill according to the characteristics of the garbage.
These include:
Used toilet paper, carbon paper, fax paper, photos, centrifugal paper, wax paper, transfer paper, plastic glossy waste paper, women's sanitary napkins, baby paper diapers, napkins, cigarette butts, ceramic products, clothes, footwear, asbestos tiles, whiteboards, wooden toys, rain boots, wooden furniture, rubber products, tires, etc.

Small misunderstandings of garbage classification
Myth 1: Big stick bones are kitchen waste
In fact, the big stick bone is listed as "other garbage" because it is "difficult to corrode". Similarly, there are corn pits, nut shells, fruit pits, etc.
Myth 2: Toilet paper is paper and can also be recycled
Toilet paper and toilet paper dissolve in water and are not considered recyclable "paper", similar to pottery, cigarette boxes, etc.
Myth 3: Plastic products are all other garbage
Plastic products other than plastic bags, such as styrofoam, plastic bottles, hard plastics, rubber and rubber products, are all recyclables.
Myth 4: Hot water bottle galls are toxic and harmful products like waste lamps
The thermos gut itself is glass, with a thin layer of mercury, which should be classified as other garbage.
