On the afternoon of September 27, local time, Shigeru Ishiba, former secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, won a majority of votes in the second round of voting for the presidential election of the Liberal Democratic Party and was elected as the new president of the Liberal Democratic Party.

Current Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's term as LDP president ends on September 30. As is customary, the new LDP president, Shigeru Ishiba, will be nominated by the Diet on October 1 and is expected to take over as prime minister.

The 67-year-old is running for party leadership for the fifth time. In his early years, he worked in a bank, and in the past 38 years in politics, he has been involved in various fields such as agriculture, security, and local revitalization.
