Four years later, in September 2024, Diageo officially announced the use of paper bottles, and was the first to use paper bottles on some Johnnie Walker Black Label whisky models. Diageo has partnered with PA Consulting to develop the bottle as part of the "Community of Bottles" project established with PA Consulting and PulPac.
The bottle is made from 90% recycled paper and has a thin plastic lining inside to insulate the wine, reducing the weight of paper bottles by about 60% compared to traditional glass bottles and reducing carbon emissions by 47%. At the same time, the plastic lining of the bottle can be recycled without disassembly, although the cap is not recyclable for the time being, but Diageo says it is working on an alternative.
