Expert advice:
Vaccinations will be completed by the end of October
For Guangdong, the peak influenza season is generally from November to February of the following year. Considering that it often takes 2-4 weeks for protective antibodies to form in the body after influenza vaccination, experts recommend that vaccination should be completed by the end of October. In the same flu season, people who have already been vaccinated against influenza do not need to repeat the vaccination.
Who needs to be vaccinated? Young-age infants, school students, pregnant women, the elderly with underlying diseases, and people with low immunity are at high risk of influenza.
The flu ≠ the common cold
Severe illness can be fatal
Influenza is an acute respiratory infectious disease caused by influenza virus, and the systemic symptoms are often obvious after infection, mainly manifested as acute onset, high fever, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, etc. In the case of unvaccinated, there is a risk of severe illness from the flu. The World Health Organization estimates that influenza causes 3 million to 5 million severe cases and 290,000 to 650,000 respiratory disease-related deaths worldwide each year.

To prevent the flu, do these five things
1. Get vaccinated
Influenza vaccination is an effective means of preventing influenza and reducing influenza-related severe disease and death.
The Technical Guidelines for Influenza Vaccination in China (2023-2024) recommend that all people ≧ 6 months of age who have no contraindications to vaccination should receive influenza vaccine. In addition to the "elderly" (seniors aged 60 years and above) and the "young" (children aged 6-59 months), the following groups of people are also recommended to be vaccinated in a timely manner:
Medical workers: such as clinical personnel, public health personnel, health and quarantine personnel, etc.;
People with chronic diseases: people suffering from one or more chronic diseases;
vulnerable populations and employees in elderly care institutions, childcare institutions, welfare homes and other crowd gathering places;
primary and secondary school teachers and students;
Pregnant woman;
Family members and caregivers of infants under 6 months of age.
