Iveco Group shines on the ground
20246 (IAA)
Demonstrate multi-energy strategies and innovative solutions
The International Motor Show (IAA) 2024, the international event for logistics, commercial vehicles and transportation, took place in Hannover, Germany, from September 17 to 22. At the event, Iveco Group made a stunning debut, showcasing its extensive multi-energy product line with its brands IVECO and FPT Industrial, and grandly unveiling a number of new products and cutting-edge solutions.
An innovative model lineup with a world premiere
At the show, IVECO showcased a large lineup of multi-energy vehicles, covering hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO), natural gas, biomethane, electricity and hydrogen. The S-eWay heavy-duty truck chassis and the eMoovy light-duty chassis are two new pure electric vehicles unveiled for the first time in the world.
Designed from the ground up by IVECO, the S-eWay chassis (including on-board software) has a range of up to 400 km and is capable of fast charging, adding 200 km of range in less than 45 minutes. The new car is equipped with FPT Industrial's electric axle with a total battery capacity of 490 kWh, making it ideal for urban and suburban transport. This new car and tractor version further expands the lineup of heavy-duty electric trucks in the S-eWay series.
As a fully electric chassis in the mid-range range of 2.5 to 3.5 tonnes, the eMoovy offers an ideal zero-emission solution for urban transport such as door-to-door delivery. The eMoovy has a range of up to 320 km and is one of the best in its class in terms of charging speed. A 10-minute charge can increase the range by up to 100 km. With a total energy storage capacity of up to 76 kWh, the eMoovy sets a new benchmark for in-car comfort while providing sedan-like comfort. This model represents another successful collaboration between the Iveco Group and Hyundai Motor Company, manufactured by Hyundai Motor and customized and distributed by IVECO in the European market.
A zero-carbon future with a firm vision
Since its establishment, Iveco Group has always adhered to a technology-neutral and multi-energy decarbonization strategy to help customers make steady progress towards the goal of zero-emission transportation. The Group understands the unique needs and challenges of each client, and provides them with tailor-made solutions that incorporate cutting-edge technology to provide them with a full range of power options.
At IVECO's booth, the public will be able to see the S-Way prototype with the XCURSOR 13-litre custom hydrogen combustion engine, and a hybrid concept heavy-duty truck that combines an electric axle with a CURSOR 9-litre hydrogen (H2) engine range extender system. These powertrains were developed by FPT Industrial Technologies, a subsidiary of the Iveco Group, which specializes in the design and production of low-impact powertrains.
FPT Industrial also has a dedicated exhibition area at the IAA, where its engines and many other products are presented through interactive exhibitions. The XCURSOR 13 is a multi-fuel, bare-metal identical engine that has been optimized to power a wide range of fuels such as diesel, natural gas, hydrogen, and more, thanks to a common core design. The CURSOR 9 H2 is a zero-carbon solution tailored for heavy-haul transport, along with a prototype of the new N67 Hythane hydrogen engine powered by a hydrogen and methane blend. In addition, the latest generation of e-axles from the FPT Industrial brand designed for light, medium and heavy-duty applications, as well as battery systems designed for light, medium and heavy duty applications, will be showcased.
Value-added services, new market development go hand in hand
IVECO and FPT Industrial also showcased a range of services designed to enhance the customer experience, including new in-vehicle solutions; Easy integration into customer and third-party applications via infotainment systems; Technology that provides information to the driver in real time, and engines that are connected to the control room and can be monitored remotely. At the same time, the Group also showcased a number of AI-based services, such as predictive diagnostics, driver health monitoring and intelligent route planning, which can significantly improve uptime, safety and productivity.
IVECO CAPITAL WILL ALSO PRESENT A COMPREHENSIVE RANGE OF FINANCIAL SERVICES FOR THE PURCHASE, RENTAL AND LEASING OF COMMERCIAL VEHICLES AT IAA TO MEET THE EVOLVING NEEDS OF ITS CUSTOMERS. In addition to financing, insurance and IVECO-specific services, IVECO CAPITAL also presented its newly launched IVECO PAY, the mobility service card issued in partnership with Eurowag, and Premium Protect, a new comprehensive insurance solution designed specifically for the Germany market.
In addition, the Green Advanced Transportation Ecosystem (GATE) also shines at the show, showcasing its innovative pay-as-you-go model designed for long-term rental of green commercial vehicles. GATE also announced an expansion in Germany, Germany GATE's second market after Italy.
Olof Persson, CEO of the IVECO Group, said, "The IAA is a major event for the global transportation industry and a great platform for us to showcase our innovative vehicles, engines and services. The Iveco Group offers a full range of solutions driven by all power options. Whatever the industry brings, we are well prepared because the Group has mastered all the core technologies from natural gas to hydrogen combustion engines, from pure electric to hydrogen fuel cell power. We have been a pioneer in alternative fuels for over 25 years and will continue to lead the energy transition with this product strategy that aligns perfectly with our long-term investment plan and technology roadmap. ”

FPT Industrial celebrates
The 100,000th natural gas engine rolls off the assembly line
FPT Industrial, the powertrain brand of the IVECO Group, has recently achieved an impressive milestone – the 100,000th natural gas (NG) engine has rolled off the production line. The brand celebrated this milestone achievement at its large, state-of-the-art engine manufacturing site in Bourbon-Lancy, France.
The history of the Bourburn-Rancy site dates back to 1874. Today, the plant employs around 1,200 people. The plant has been producing the industry's best-known line of heavy-duty natural gas engines since 1997 and in 2021 received the highest standard for production process management – the "World Class Manufacturing Gold Certification". In 2022, the facility joined the Operational Excellence Program (DOT) to optimize the company's operations around the world.
At the same time, the plant is committed to sustainable development, taking various measures to reduce the environmental impact of industrial activities and protect the biodiversity of the surrounding environment. As a result, it is an ideal manufacturing base for the industry's most successful natural gas engines.
The 100,000th natural gas engine to roll off the production line is the XCursor 13 NG engine for trucks. This multi-fuel engine delivers best-in-class power, torque, and braking power. The XCursor 13 NG, launched in 2024, emits 8% less CO2 than the previous generation's 13-litre engine and is highly reliable with a service life of up to 1.2 million km. Since the launch of the Cursor natural gas engine range in 2004, the plant has produced more than 45,000 engines (8-9-13 liter models).
Vincent Barbosa, Plant Manager of the Bourben-Rancy plant, said: "This important achievement is the result of a combination of factors: an industry-leading engine design that meets market demand; Excellent production technology can improve production efficiency; Motivated employees are fully committed to achieving production plans and maintaining customer satisfaction. Together, these strengths enable us to achieve our compelling goal of meeting the industry's demand for low-impact powertrain systems. ”
