Opening Remarks:
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. With the eventful years, Qingdao has undergone earth-shaking changes from the appearance of the city, the industrial economy, to various supporting facilities. And all these extraordinary changes are finally "condensed" in the life scene of the people of this city.
From now on, Peninsula Metropolis Daily will launch the "Me and My City" column, focusing on the changes around us through the perspective of ordinary people, and depicting a happy picture of a city with new life scenes. And behind this picture, it is the joint efforts of thousands of you and me.

Recently, the autumn semester of the Qujiazhuang branch of the Laoshan District University for the Elderly opened, and Li Xia, a villager of Qujiazhuang Village, Wanggezhuang Street, enrolled in four courses in one go. "I feel that at our doorstep, the government provides us with such a good platform, and without spending money, we can learn more knowledge to enrich our culture and improve our literacy."
As Qingdao actively promotes the extension of educational resources for the elderly to the grassroots level and promotes the construction of "universities for the elderly at the doorstep", more and more elderly people enjoy high-quality education at home.
On September 5th and 6th, the reporter went to the Vancouver Community of Zhonghan Street and Qujiazhuang Village of Wanggezhuang Street in Laoshan District to visit the universities for the elderly in urban and rural communities.
On September 5th, at the Vancouver teaching point of Laoshan District University for the Elderly, teacher Li Yuchuan gave a mobile phone photography class to the students.
Catch a two-hour journey just to give a two-hour lesson to rural students
At 6 o'clock in the morning of the 6th, Su Chunpeng, a 62-year-old vocal music teacher at Laoshan District University for the Elderly, got up. He had to get out of the house before 7 o'clock, start from Macao Road, Shinan District, take Metro Line 2, transfer to Metro Blue Valley Express, and then reverse Bus No. 620. The purpose of the two-hour journey is to give a two-hour vocal lesson to the students of the Qujiazhuang branch of the Laoshan District University for the Elderly.
At 8:50 a.m., Su Chunpeng got off the No. 620 bus and went to Qujiazhuang Village, Wanggezhuang Street, Laoshan District, bought a few steamed buns at the breakfast stall on the side of the road, and walked to the classroom while eating. At 9 o'clock in the morning, the vocal class started, and more than 50 students were all villagers from Qujiazhuang Village and surrounding villages.
On September 6, at the Qujiazhuang branch of Laoshan District University for the Elderly, teacher Su Chunpeng was giving vocal lessons to students.
"Every time I come to Qujiazhuang Village for class, I get up early, my family hasn't gotten up yet, and I leave home without breakfast. I got off the bus in the morning and it was 8:50. I hurried up to buy a few steamed buns, ate them, and walked to the classroom. Let the students see it, and they think, 'This teacher is so down-to-earth, eating steamed buns and appearing in front of the students,' which is a very happy feeling. Su Chunpeng said.
On weekdays, Su Chunpeng deals with the peasant trainees very smoothly. "Laoshan District has opened a university for the elderly to the countryside and to the farmers' doorsteps, and I am also happy to come here to teach. Although it is a long way to get here, it is a little harder, but I feel very comfortable. ”
"Rural students are better taught. They are all 'little whites', and they have never studied vocal music. It's like a blank sheet of paper, and you can write smoothly on this blank paper. The rural students were obedient and hardworking, and let them practice their qi and open their voices every morning, and the students did the same. Some of the trainees were still singing while they were doing farm work. Su Chunpeng said.

The women who pick tea in the village go to the university for the elderly four days a week
Li Xia, a 62-year-old villager from Qujiazhuang Village, is a student in Su Chunpeng's vocal class, and she attends the University for the Elderly four days a week. "Classical dance on Monday, cucurbits on Tuesday, calligraphy on Wednesday, vocal music on Friday." Li Xia crossed her fingers and counted the four classes she reported to the reporter.
Attending a university for the elderly in the village, Li Xia couldn't even think of it before.
Due to the lack of large-scale activity venues in the village, in 2020, a multi-functional activity room of more than 200 square meters was built by upgrading the environment of the old toll station.
Zhou Shuqing, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Qujiazhuang Village, said that since the village has a new era civilization practice station, a large number of cultural entertainment and propaganda activities have been carried out. In the daily communication with the villagers, the village party committee found that square dancing and daily study could no longer meet the needs of the elderly for spiritual and cultural life. The village party committee envisioned that, like the people in the city, there should be a university for the elderly at their doorstep, so that the elderly could have a place to study.
On September 6, at the Qujiazhuang branch of Laoshan District University for the Elderly, teacher Su Chunpeng was giving vocal lessons to students.
Under the guidance of Laoshan District University for the Elderly, in February 2022, the Qujiazhuang branch was established, and there are currently 5 teaching classes in the branch, namely classical dance class, Tai Chi class, Hulusi class, calligraphy class, and vocal music class, with more than 200 students, all of whom are villagers from Qujiazhuang Village and Yangkou District.
Many elderly people in Qujiazhuang Village like to sing. Since the opening of the Qujiazhuang branch in February 2022, Qu Zhifang, a villager of Qujiazhuang Village and the head of the vocal music class of the Qujiazhuang branch, has begun to learn vocal music. "Placing the University for the Elderly in the countryside has brought great pleasure to the elderly in the countryside. Let the elderly who like to sing learn and have fun when they are old. In addition to classes, Qu Zhifang participates in vocal performances in daily activities, "I am indispensable in every activity, and I am the lead singer in the chorus." ”
When the farm is busy, the rural trainees also have to take care of the land at home. The main cash crop in Wanggezhuang Street is tea. Li Xia, who has signed up for four classes, is extremely busy at home. Li Xia's family has more than ten acres of tea, and every year from the end of April to the end of September, there is work in the tea field. When the farm is busy, it is necessary to hire people to do farm work. "Sometimes everybody is picking tea in the tea field, and I say, 'You guys are here first, I'll have something to do when I get home,' and I sneak out to attend classes at the University for the Elderly." Li Xia said with a smile, and her love for the university for the elderly can be seen.
On September 6, at the Qujiazhuang branch of Laoshan District University for the Elderly, teacher Su Chunpeng was giving vocal lessons to students.
On weekdays, Qu Zhifang also has to take care of his 2-year-old grandson, and whenever Qu Zhifang takes vocal lessons or has performances, he hands over his grandson to his mother-in-law to take care of. Qu Zhifang's farm work is mainly to take care of the tea field and pick tea, "Our own land, we have the final say, and we don't pick tea leaves when we go to class." ”
After taking vocal lessons, Qu Zhifang learned pronunciation skills, and he could also read music, and he talked about vocal music. Every time the class is held, the vocal teacher will give the students homework and let them practice singing after class. "When I cook, I will sing when I lie on the kang at night." Qu Zhifang said.
Every year, more than a dozen large-scale theatrical performances are held in Qujiazhuang Village, and students from Qujiazhuang Branch will participate in the performances. At present, Li Xia has learned the skills of classical dance, blowing gourd silk and chorus, when the village holds an event, Li Xia can dance on stage, pick up the gourd silk can blow, she can blow "phoenix tail bamboo in the moonlight" and many other songs. "It also allows us women who pick tea at home to write calligraphy very well." Li Xia said. During the slack season, the villagers organize themselves to sing and dance together to enrich their cultural life.
Going to the university for the elderly, Li Xia felt that she had gained a lot. "First of all, I was in a good mood. Knowing that there are classes at the University for the Elderly today, I wake up in the morning with a happy mood and happiness. It has also improved its own quality. ”

Set up branch schools and community teaching sites...... Bringing the University for the Elderly to the "Doorstep"
On the morning of September 5, the reporter came to the activity room of the Party and Mass Service Station of Jinguang Liyuan Community, Vancouver Community, Zhonghan Street, Laoshan District, and the smartphone application and mobile phone photography class of the Vancouver teaching point of Laoshan District University for the Elderly was in class.
Lu Huayi, a 67-year-old resident of the community, is a student in the smartphone app and mobile photography class. "We are elderly, learning smartphone apps, and we have poor receptivity. I often ask my children for some questions, but they are too busy to answer them in detail. It is very practical to come to the university for the elderly to learn how to use smartphones. Lu Huayi used to study in dance classes and vocal classes, but due to physical reasons, she felt that she was unable to do so, and this autumn semester, she enrolled in a smartphone app and mobile phone photography class instead.
Attending a university for the elderly in the community, Lu Hua felt convenient. "It's a bit far to go to the headquarters of Laoshan District University for the Elderly. In the past, mobile phone photography courses could not be learned in the community. ”
"We love to dance, we like to record videos, we like to edit videos, post them for everyone to see, show off!" Lu Huayi said, "Looking at such a good short video made by others, I am envious." Now I am learning mobile phone photography by myself, how to arrange videos in editing software, how to make backgrounds and covers, and my level has improved. I especially like this course, I can make more beautiful short videos after learning. ”
The smartphone application and mobile phone photography class opened by the Vancouver teaching center this fall is the third class opened by 73-year-old teacher Li Yuchuan in the Vancouver community, with a one-year school system. "I hope that through one year of study, students can master the basic functions of photography and video, and realize the production of video in the early and post-production." Li Yuchuan introduced.
"The Vancouver site started teaching in September 2020. In the past, the elderly residents of the community were at home after retirement, and although there were many recreational activities in the community on weekdays, many elderly people wanted to study at the University for the Elderly. Qingdao University for the Aged and Laoshan District University for the Aged are hard to find, and residents find communities and hope to be able to attend universities for the elderly at their doorstep. Shi Xiaoming, deputy director of the Vancouver Community Neighborhood Committee, introduced that through multi-party cooperation, the Vancouver teaching site of Laoshan District University for the Elderly was established in 2020, and when the fall semester of that year started, 4 courses were set up with 161 students. Today, the Vancouver program has expanded to six courses with more than 260 students. "The elderly can go to the university for the elderly at their doorstep, and the elderly care in the community has become 'enjoying the elderly'."
Xin Fei, a staff member of Laoshan District University for the Elderly, introduced that in order to expand the supply of educational resources for the elderly and effectively alleviate the pressure of a university for the elderly, in recent years, through continuous practice and exploration, Laoshan District University for the Elderly has gradually established a three-level education system of district-level university for the elderly, branch schools of sub-district districts, and community teaching points. The government pays for the running of the school, so as not to add economic burden to the community and the district. Admission is free for rural residents studying at branch campuses and teaching sites, and tuition fees are halved for residents of urban communities. Up to now, Laoshan District University for the Elderly has opened 7 branches, 10 teaching sites, a total of 61 teaching classes, and served more than 2,000 students in 5 streets in the district.
The reporter learned from the relevant departments that up to now, Qingdao University for the Aged and the District (City) University for the Aged have cooperated in running schools and opening teaching points and branch campuses. So that the elderly can enjoy high-quality elderly education resources at their doorstep without leaving the community.
