In the history of our Party's hidden front, many Bethune-style internationalist fighters have emerged. They cherished ideals, crossed the ocean, and during their stay in China, they were deeply affected by the revolution and volunteered to serve and join the work of our party's hidden front. They fought side by side with the Chinese military and civilians on the covert front, defeated the enemy, and became the "foreign faces" in the history of our party's covert front.

Michael Lin

In 2015, the Tourism Development Committee of Haidian District, Beijing launched the "Lin Mike 8 Kilometers - the Coolest Anti-Japanese War Hiking Route", which attracted many tourists to check in. This "Lin Maike Trail" is a secret transportation route between Beiping and the Jin-Cha-Ji anti-Japanese base area. The winding mountain trails bear witness to the arduous years of struggle on the hidden front.

Michael Lin, born in London, United Kingdom, in 1908, came to China at the end of 1937 as a professor of economics at Yen Ching Restaurant. In the early days of the Anti-Japanese War, he inspected the Jinchaji and Taihang anti-Japanese base areas many times, and was received by Zhu De, Peng Dehuai and other leaders of the Eighth Route Army. During this time, Lin was deeply moved by the spirit of our army and civilians in the arduous war of resistance, and resolutely decided to join the secret anti-Japanese activities. After that, Lin Maike assisted our party's Beiping intelligence organization and carried out a fruitful covert struggle.

In order to solve the difficulty of the lack of telecommunications equipment in the base areas, he managed to purchase enough telecommunications parts from abroad to assemble 10 radio stations, secretly assembled them in the dormitory of Yen Ching Restaurant, scattered them and hid them, and transported them to the base areas despite many difficulties. He also took advantage of his special status as a foreign professor to work closely with France doctor Pei Xiye and others to purchase medical equipment and other materials that were in short supply for the Eighth Route Army, which were strictly controlled by the Japanese invaders. In the name of going out on an outing, he passed through the checkpoints of the Japanese army and handed over the supplies to the comrades of the Pingxi Intelligence Liaison Station located in the mountainous area. These precious supplies were continuously delivered to the base area through secret communication lines.

In addition, Lin Maike often drove motorcycles to pick up and cover the intelligence officers of the Social Department of the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Base Area in and out of Beiping City. After the outbreak of the Pacific War, Lin Maike was transferred to the anti-Japanese base area with the help of the Social Department of the Jinchaji Base Area. In the summer of 1944, Lin Maike went to Yan'an, successively served as a communications adviser to the Eighth Route Army, an English broadcasting adviser to the Xinhua News Agency, and returned to United Kingdom after the surrender of Japan, where he devoted himself to the establishment and development of friendly relations between China and Britain for a long time. On October 22, 2015, General Secretary Xi Jinping also praised his contribution to the Chinese-People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression during his visit to United Kingdom.

Wang Anna and her husband Wang Bingnan

Anna Wang, formerly known as Anna Lise, was born in 1907 and holds a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Berlin. In 1935, she married Wang Bingnan, an underground member of the CCP in Germany, and changed her name to Wang Anna, and came to China with her husband the following year. After the outbreak of the all-out Anti-Japanese War, she and Wang Bingnan engaged in united front work and intelligence work together, and became an important member of the "Baomeng". She was a trusted foreign friend of Soong Ching Ling and could speak fluent French, so she became the best candidate to open up the joints of the France colonial government and open up the material communication line between China and Vietnam.

Wang Anna went to Haiphong, Viet Nam, according to the party's instructions. The local France customs officers, seeing this temperamental, French-speaking Germany, did not dare to slack off, so Wang Anna successfully completed the pass and led the "Baomeng" material convoy to return to China smoothly. Wang Anna traveled back and forth from Haiphong to Longzhou, China, for several months, delivering urgently needed supplies to the anti-Japanese base areas behind enemy lines.

After the incident in southern Anhui, Wang Anna assisted our party in announcing the Kuomintang's anti-communist crimes to foreign journalists and diplomats in China, and served as a liaison between Zhou Enlai and United Kingdom Ambassador Carr; under the close surveillance of Kuomintang agents, she skillfully arranged contacts between the two, and covered up a secret meeting between Zhou Enlai and Curie, the special envoy of the President of United States, which historians called "groundbreaking," prompting public opinion at home and abroad to turn to the side favorable to the War of Resistance.

After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Wang Anna continued to assist Soong Ching Ling in carrying out united front work in accordance with the party's instructions. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, she worked tirelessly for the friendship between China and Germany, and wrote the book "China - My Second Hometown" in her later years, which is still deeply loved by the people of the two countries.

Zhongxi Gong

In the early 30s of the 20th century, in Shanghai's famous "Japan spy school", the East Asia Tongwen College, it was common to see a well-behaved Chinese teacher explaining the principles of communism to Japan students. In fact, the real identity of this teacher is Wang Xuewen, an intelligence officer of the Special Branch of the Party Central Committee of our Party, and his preaching and teaching at this time laid the groundwork for a legend of anti-Japanese spy warfare in the future.

Enlightened by Wang Xuewen, many Japanese students of the East Asia Tongwen College became communists, and some even joined the hidden front led by our party, and the famous "Zhongxigong Intelligence Group" was one of the representatives.

Under the leadership of our party's intelligence department, Koshi Nakanishi, director of the investigation office of Japan's "Manchurian Railway" office in Shanghai, served as the head of the group, and formed an intelligence group with Ryuo Nishiri, a special correspondent of Japan's "Yomiuri Shimbun" in Shanghai, Shotaro Ozaki, head of the economic group of the "Manchurian Railway" Northern Economic Investigation Institute, and Yukiko Shirai, chief of the intelligence section of the Japan North China Dispatch Army Command. They collected and reported a large amount of information on Japan's invasion of China, the operational dynamics of the Japanese army, and the Japanese puppet anti-communist plots; in particular, they obtained and reported in advance the key strategic information on the Japanese army's southward advance, which effectively served the decisions and arrangements of the party Central Committee. The "Zhongxigong Intelligence Group" has played a vital role in our party's correct grasp of the battlefield situation and its initiative to respond to changes in the current situation, and has played a decisive role in the development of the Pacific situation.
