I just got married and have no children, how to plan the design of the children's room?
If you have just gotten married, wait until the child is born (1-2 years later), and wait until the child sleeps in a separate room to kindergarten or primary school (3-6 years later), which means that the children's room will be idle for 5-8 years, but you decorate the wedding room and have to make a good plan, at this time the headache comes - will the future child be male or female? It takes several years to use the children's room, how to decorate it?
I have met many customers who "plan to have children in the next 2 years", so I will share with you the design experience of this situation!
1. What color should you use for the wall?
Since the child has not yet been born, or even just married and not pregnant, I don't know whether my future child will be male or female, so the children's room should not be made of gender-obvious colors, such as pink and blue, it is not recommended! It is recommended to use neutral colors such as white, cream, and coffee to decorate, whether you have a boy or a girl, you can use it.
2. Do you want to buy furniture?
Because it will be idle for 5-8 years, so don't rush to buy the furniture in the children's room, but according to the actual needs!
(1) It is not recommended to buy a bed
The bed is the most occupied, and it's still in the middle, so it's highly recommended not to buy a bed in an unused children's room! If you plan to make a guest room and sleep with people a lot, you can consider buying a bed.
(2) Wardrobe and desk
Although it is best to live directly empty, the wardrobe and desk are arranged against the wall, so you can install them first! Your child's clothes can be stored in the wardrobe in the children's room, and a desk is also convenient for children to do homework (albeit rarely) or adults to use it occasionally for overtime.
In fact, when there is no bed, only a wardrobe and a desk, the children's room can still maintain a spacious space and provide a loose play space for children.
3. How to leave the switch socket?
Since you plan to make a children's room for your child, you must make a layout plan in advance, determine the location and size of the bed, desk and wardrobe, and then reserve switches and sockets according to the furniture layout plan! The switch and socket is a concealed project, so please be sure to make a reasonable reservation.
4. How to use the empty space in the early stage?
If you have just gotten married (the child has not yet been born), and wait until the child sleeps in a separate room, which is usually 5-8 years later, then how can the children's room be used during this idle period?
(1) Make a study
If there is no study at home, and adults occasionally have to work overtime at home, you can arrange the desk and use the children's room as a study for the time being.
(2) Make exercise space
Spread out a yoga mat or set up a treadmill and use the unused children's room as a sports space.
(3) Make a guest room
The space of the house is enough, and when the child does not sleep in the early stage, it can be used as a guest room, for example, if the child is small in front of the nanny/confinement wife, you can let the nanny/confinement lady sleep in the children's room.
(4) Play space
Vacate the children's room and place picture book shelves, toy storage racks, small tents and toy tables in it, and you can become a childlike play space for children.
(5) Children's storage room
And there are a lot of baby supplies, such as strollers, balance bikes, twisting cars, safety seats, etc., each piece is very space-consuming, when the child is smaller, you can use the children's room as a storage room, and when the child is older, the baby products are sold, and then put into the children's furniture.
As a mother of two, I've found that my child's favorite space is not the children's room, but the living room! Instead of being a "play space", it might be better to be a "storage room"!
5. Will it be twins?
I got married and bought a house with three bedrooms and two living rooms, thinking that three generations would live together - 1 room for parents, 1 room for myself, and 1 room for future children, which should be very sufficient! However, when you encounter "helpless happiness" - giving birth to twins (especially dragon and phoenix fetuses), then I am afraid that the plan will have to be adjusted, and you will have to change the house or renovate the children's room!
6. Give your child a sleep, remember to prepare in advance!
For example, if you plan to sleep with your child next year in a children's room that has been idle for 5 years, you should plan 1-2 years in advance! Buy furniture and mattresses in advance, so that new furniture and supplies have time to ventilate and dissipate odors, and don't let children live in "formaldehyde houses".
The design sister summed up a few sentences:
Almost 50% of my design clients are "just married and plan to have children in the next 2 years", because the children's male and female sexes/interests are unknown, so when decorating the "future children's room", they have to consider the problem more long-term!
