The world's first! Another 100 billion square meters of atmospheric fields are coming

The new proven reserves of the Lingshui 36-1 gas field discovered by the mainland in the southeast waters of Hainan Island passed the review and filing of relevant state departments on the 7th, and the proven geological reserves of natural gas exceeded 100 billion cubic meters, making it the world's first ultra-deepwater and ultra-shallow large-scale gas field. So far, the mainland has accumulated more than 1 trillion cubic meters of proven natural gas geological reserves in the three basins of Yinggehai, Qiongdongnan and Pearl River Estuary, contributing to national energy security.

At present, ultra-shallow gas is an important oil and gas resource in deep-water areas, generally referring to natural gas buried at a depth of less than 300 meters, and exploration and development are faced with problems such as difficulty in buried ultra-shallow preservation, difficulty in filling away from hydrocarbon sources, and difficulty in loose strata drilling.

"We have tackled key technologies for shallow gas accumulation mechanism and engineering operations, and selected the Lingshui 36-1 block, which is located in the southern part of the central depression of the southeast basin of Hainan Island and has an average operating water depth of 1,500 meters, as the exploration target." Xu Changgui, chief geologist of CNOOC, said that the exploration practice of the Lingshui 36-1 gas field has revealed the possibility of changing from "disaster gas" affecting the safety of drilling and completion operations to clean energy with development value, which is of guiding significance for the exploration and development of resources with similar sea conditions.

The successful exploration of this gas field has further improved the technical system for the exploration and development of deepwater complex oil and gas resources independently established by the mainland, and verified its advancement and reliability.

Increasing oil and gas exploration is of great significance to ensuring national energy security. The 2024 Work Promotion Meeting on Vigorously Improving Oil and Gas Exploration and Development held by the National Energy Administration emphasized that it is necessary to focus on key basins, increase the intensity of capital and workload investment, strengthen scientific and technological research, concentrate on three-dimensional exploration, build production on a large scale and efficiently, and accelerate the establishment of oil and gas exploration and development bases. Guided by scientific and technological innovation, we should continue to carry out the four major areas of "two deep, one non-old and one old", and accelerate the breakthrough of key theoretical and technical problems in the efficient development of 10,000-meter-level deep-ground, kilometer-level deep-water, nano-scale unconventional and old oil and gas fields.

Industry insiders said that the oil and gas industry should strengthen the guidance of scientific and technological innovation and forge new "sharp weapons" for increasing oil and gas reserves and production. In the traditional oil and gas field, the oil and gas field focuses on improving oil recovery in accordance with the stock, focusing on unconventional, deep and deepwater incrementally, strengthening the research and development of conventional and unconventional oil and gas exploration and development technologies, strengthening on-site pilot experiments, and breaking through the technical and economic barriers of large-scale production as soon as possible.
