Islamabad, Jan. 1 (Guangming Ribao) -- Zhang Renzhong, a correspondent of Guangming Ribao in Islamabad

In 2011, Wang Lu, a young man from Henan, came to Pakistan to study at the International Islamic University of Pakistan and studied in the field of language learning. After graduation, he successfully started a car rental company in Pakistan. With a cheerful personality, in addition to studying and working, he has also actively participated in public welfare undertakings over the years.

During her work in the International Student Union, Wang Lu was exposed to public welfare activities for the first time. At that time, he found that the international student group liked to buy clothes, and the update frequency was fast, and slowly accumulated and eliminated a lot of various clothes that had been worn before. The clothes themselves are of good quality, and they are not "old" at all, and it is a great waste if they are discarded in vain. Therefore, Wang Lu proposed that the clothes be donated to people in need in the local area, such as those in refugee camps who are living in difficulty. Therefore, he collected and sorted out all kinds of clothes that everyone did not wear, used three washing machines to wash them, then dried, disinfected, packed, and then contacted the heads of local public welfare organizations, and finally distributed the clothes to the people in the refugee camp. Wang Lu said that he still remembers the happy way the children looked when they received the donated items, "the first public welfare activity made me deeply moved and gained a lot."

Since then, Wang Lu has paid more attention to social welfare, and he and his international students have to hold similar public welfare activities every year. He found that there were many scattered coins in the hands of international students that were almost no longer used, often scattered on desks and drawers, so he launched the "Coin Action", calling for the coins that were no longer used to collect and buy stationery to donate to the local primary school. The activity once again received a warm response from the students, and many Pakistani students also actively donated coins with Chinese students.

Wang Lu said that what touched him most was that Chinese students were constantly changing the face of the above-mentioned refugee camps with enthusiasm and continuous efforts. Over the years, international students' support for the camps and their schools has never been interrupted. With the support of the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, the Association of Overseas Chinese, business institutions and caring people, Wang Lu and his classmates helped the school there from a simple adobe house to a neat and bright classroom, and the well helped solve the water problem in the refugee camp, installed solar panels on the house, repaired the roof and wall of the rain leak, and distributed school uniforms, tables, chairs, and stationery to the students. "Not long ago, when we learned that teachers and students in refugee camp schools lacked warm cotton shoes and still wore sandals and slippers for the winter, we purchased a batch of related materials and distributed them to teachers and students there." Wang Lu said.

As public welfare activities become more and more frequent, the scale is getting larger and larger, and more and more people ask for help, Wang Lu and his partners are also constantly summarizing and improving the relevant public welfare relief system, and set up a China-Pakistan friendship exchange group. After graduation, Wang Lu has also been actively participating in group activities. He said that many of the activities in his student days were relatively small in scale and easier to operate. Later, when more and more requests for help in the society came back, the original bottlenecks such as scale, funds, and processes needed to be broken. "For example, we are currently supporting an orphanage where teachers and students have a higher level of demand for teaching equipment, and the quantity and amount of money are also larger, and small donations in the past will certainly not work." Wang Lu said that fortunately, their public welfare activities have been strongly supported by the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, various associations, enterprises and caring organizations and people from all walks of life in China and Pakistan. At present, the group has formulated strict rules and regulations in all the processes of public welfare activity declaration, material procurement, review, supervision, distribution and post-incident feedback, and the operation of public welfare projects has been basically formalized.

Pakistan was not immune to the global outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020. Under the impact of the epidemic, many local people have also contacted the China-Pakistan Friendship Exchange Group for help. "When the epidemic broke out, our families didn't want us to risk going out." Wang Lu said, "But after careful consideration, we still decided to implement public welfare assistance under the premise of ensuring our own safety, and we can help as much as we can." At the peak of the epidemic, there were fewer volunteers who could assist the activities, so Wang Lu and her partners wore masks and gloves, "fully armed" and went to purchase aid materials, which were then handed over to local volunteers and caring people for on-the-spot distribution. Wang Lu said that the public welfare material packages they prepared are carefully selected and balanced, mainly including grain, oil and food and other materials, which are enough for the daily consumption of an ordinary family for about a month.

Once, the China-Pakistan Friendship Exchange Group received a request for assistance from an official in the Gilgit-Baltistan region, hoping to solve the urgent needs of some of the local people who have been most affected by the epidemic and tide over the food shortage. The above-mentioned areas are located in the north of Pakistan, close to Xinjiang, China, with mountainous river valleys, remote and inconvenient transportation, and the implementation of public welfare activities is facing great difficulties. Wang Lu and his team conducted detailed research and deduction on the implementation plan and the details of material distribution, and finally covered a total of 10 sub-districts under the jurisdiction of The Ji-Ba region, distributed materials in an orderly manner, and gave priority to solving the rescue needs of the elderly, the sick, the disabled, orphans and widows. At the same time, they also helped the local government to develop a differentiated rescue plan for different situations in each district. Wang Lu said that the first phase of about 300 households of materials was distributed, which caused a warm response in Pakistan, and many caring people and official non-governmental organizations from China and Pakistan contacted them through the Internet and telephone, and contributed money and ideas. There was a Pakistani driver who voluntarily delivered supplies to remote mountainous areas, and his vehicle was damaged by overturning due to extreme road conditions, but he did not complain, and continued to go on the road after repairing the vehicle, and the maintenance fee and even the whole gas cost were out of his own pocket. It is precisely with the support of all sectors of society that this public welfare activity has effectively rescued 100 needy families in each of the 10 jurisdictions of Jiba.

"This time, the friendship between China and Pakistan has really spread to all corners of the Kyrgyzstan-Pakistan region." Wang Lu said, "Over the years, my biggest feeling is that doing public welfare activities can not only help those in need, but also attract more people to participate and feel the spirit of charity with practical actions." I am willing to continue to be an envoy for china-Pakistan folk friendship. ”
