【Internet China Festival】Qixi Festival

Qixi Festival, also known as the Qiqiao Festival and the Daughter's Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival that comes from the legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, and is celebrated on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month.

In ancient times, women would sacrifice to the seventh sister every time they were born, praying for ingenuity and a happy marriage. This is where the name "Qiqiao" comes from. Women will also use five-colored threads to thread needles through the moon and wind, and they will wear them for a long time. Over time, Tanabata has also become a "Daughter's Day". The Qixi Festival is based on the folklore of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, which expresses the feelings of married men and women who never abandon and grow old together, and abide by the promise of love.

Because the main participants of this day's activities are young girls, and the content of the festival activities is mainly begging, people call this day "Qiqiao Festival" or "Girls' Day" and "Daughter's Day". On May 20, 2006, the Qixi Festival was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list by the State Council of the People's Republic of China.

Festival customs: threading needles and begging for skill, liking spiders, throwing needles to test skill, planting and begging for children, celebrating the birthday of cattle, drying books and clothes, offering grinding and drinking, worshipping weaver girls, and eating clever fruits.
