During the People's Liberation War, inspired by the battle slogan of "Wherever the field army hits, the railway will be repaired," the railway column threw itself into the northeast region and the Guannai Beining, Jinpu, Pinghan, Longhai, Yuehan, and Xianggui railways to rush to repair. A total of 1,600 kilometers of lines were repaired, 980 bridges, about 6,000 square meters of station houses, and about 50,000 kilometers of communication lines were erected, which effectively guaranteed the railway transportation of Liaoshen, Pingjin, and the Jiangjiang Crossing Campaign, as well as the march into the south and northwest of the Yangtze River. In June 1950, the Korean War broke out. During the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, railway military transportation was the backbone of the logistics supply and troop mobility of the Chinese People's Volunteers. The United States Air Force has always listed railways as a key target, concentrated a large number of planes to bomb the DPRK's 1,300-kilometer railway line day and night, and dispatched a total of various types of aircraft5. 90,000 sorties and more than 190,000 bombs of various types were dropped in a vain attempt to cut off the logistics supply lines of the Volunteers. A total of more than 1,000 kilometers of railway extension lines, 2,300 bridges, 127 kilometers of temporary bridges, 122 tunnels, 3,600 stations, 21,000 kilometers of communication lines, and 210 kilometers of new railway lines were also repaired. The creation of a "steel transportation line that cannot be broken and bombed continuously" effectively guaranteed the victory of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea.
In July 1953, the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea ended successfully. On 9 September, the Central Military Commission ordered four divisions and one independent regiment of the Railway Corps of the Chinese People's Volunteers and six railway engineers of the Chinese People's Liberation Army to be unified into the Railway Corps of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. On March 5, 1954, the Railway Corps Command was established in Beijing.
