Searching for "rock and roll town" on Baidu will automatically associate with many cities such as Shijiazhuang in Hebei, Xinxiang in Henan, and Ji'an in Jilin Province. Another large number of articles will tell you that Shandong is the home of Chinese rock and roll.
The "Land of Rock' and Roll" is fiercely contested because the festival is hot. According to the incomplete statistics of hard candy Jun, in the seven days of national day, there are more than two dozen music festivals in the country, including old brands such as midi and strawberry, and there is no shortage of new faces. The band ran 3-4 provinces and cities for 7 days, which is not unusual.
The successful precedents of overseas cities such as Manchester and Austin tell us that music is not only a cultural business card of the city, but also can drive tourism and revitalize the city economy through various musical activities. So the question is: they all say that they are "the land of rock and roll", whose taste is corrected? Where is the origin of rock 'n' roll?

Probably scared by the stereotypes on the Internet, the Shandong government has some intention of forging ahead and recreating the image in recent years. In 2020, Shandong Province issued the "Shandong Provincial Cultural Tourism Integration Development Plan (2020-2025)", which clearly regards music festivals as the main cultural products for the prosperity and development of night tourism. In the second quarter of this year, more than a dozen music festivals landed in Shandong, and they toured most of Shandong on a lap.

The benefits of music festivals to Shandong are obvious. In the hearts of young people, conservative and rustic Shandong has become attractive again, coupled with the fact that the overall price of Shandong is not high, the tourism effect of music festivals is also obvious. Jinan was one of the first cities in China to embrace rock and roll in an inclusive manner. Since the 1990s, Shandong Rock has landed in Jinan, and Quancheng has inspired and nourished the earliest batch of Shandong rock people.
Liu Yao, doctoral supervisor of the School of Materials Science of Shandong University, teaches and educates people during the day, and becomes the lead singer of the metal band Burial Lake at night; Xie Tianxiao, who was born in Zibo, was once ridiculed by Peng Lei of the new pants, and sang like a green onion standing on the stage, and it was this "green onion" that brought the fire to the trend of eating green onions in concerts.

The origin of Shijiazhuang and rock and roll begins in 1984. At that time, the spring breeze blew all over the ground, and two American bands blew the rock and roll wind into Shijiazhuang. In 1986, the journal "Popular Songs" sponsored by the Hebei Provincial Art Research Institute was born. Together with I Love Rock and Roll, a monthly magazine founded in 1999, it completed the rock and roll enlightenment for generations.
Shijiazhuang people after the 70s and 80s, watching "Love Shake" and "Popular" grew up, it was inevitable that the skills were itchy, so they simply formed their own bands. In the 1990s, Shijiazhuang gave birth to a large number of local bands and independent musicians, and the album "Shimen Beacon" records the era of a hundred schools of thought. The "Universal Youth Hostel", which is talked about by today's Generation Z, is also a typical epitome of the times.
From Shijiazhuang all the way north, we come to Langfang, which is less than 60 kilometers from Beijing. In 2018, a documentary called "Rock Langfang" was born, which called Langfang an "rock town", and many heavyweights in the history of Chinese rock music have a continuous relationship with this city.
Langfang walked out of the band Han Hongbin of the overloaded band, Liu Weidong and Liu Weiqiang of the Wa band, Yang Lin of the Red Army, Gu Zhiwei of the faded band, Li Peng of the mirror, Liu Yue of the Cui Jian band, the Oops band and other bands and musicians, as well as the person who was repeatedly mentioned in the documentary - "Old Five".
Liu Yijun, born in Tianjin, grew up in Beijing, and originated in Langfang. He was a guitarist for the Tang Dynasty Band and was named "China's Greatest Guitarist" by SPIN Magazine in the United States for his excellent guitar solo.
The people of Hebei can be described as vague on the Internet, but they all have a restless heart. Even Xiong'an, Qinhuangdao and other places have been rated as "rock cities" because of their strong rock atmosphere.
Everything has a source, and Beijing is the source of Chinese rock music. This is the political center of China, and the children of the courtyard are more accessible to overseas cultures than ordinary people. In the 1960s, Lin Liguo had already listened to rock music. As the first batch of people to contact rock and roll, the children of the courtyard are also the first to engage in rock music, and the "godfather of rock and roll" Cui Jian is also from the courtyard.
To use a less appropriate analogy, the big yard children of the 70s and 80s are like today's KOLs, leading the social trend. Under their influence, Beijing formed a strong rock atmosphere, and radiated to other cities with this as the core, and eventually brewed into a new wave of music that swept the country.
Recognized as the first rock band in the industry, it was born in Beijing in 1979. At the Beijing Institute of Foreign Languages, the band put together the surnames of its members and got the name "Wan Li Ma Wang". The band mainly featured covers of overseas music such as the Beatles and Paul Simon, and disbanded after graduation.

At that time, beijing was already desolate after the Third Ring Road, and the villagers of Shucun village went to the city to work, and the vacated houses were rented to young people who came to study midi. The tree village with a rent of 150 / month has given birth to more than 100 bands, including many star bands such as Trojan horses, tongues, and pain.
The documentary "The Edge of Freedom" focuses on the tree village musicians. From today's point of view, this documentary is very rough, just like the rock music of that year, there is a kind of childish preciousness. Wu Tun of the Band tongue is still a little green in front of the camera, and at the end of the documentary, he stands on the country road with his hands in his pockets and says, "I don't have any ideas about the future."
In addition to the utopia of Shucun, the livehouses of Beijing Drum Tower, Wudaokou and other places also spawned many new bands, which were later collectively known as "Beijing Circle Rock".
Beijing still has a fatal appeal to all rollers, and coming to Beijing means that it is possible to make a name for itself. But it has long since become an international metropolis, and it cannot be the utopia that nourished hundreds of bands with dreams many years ago.

Shandong relies on the number of music festivals to win, and Yanzhao Dadi has a historical advantage, but other cities known as the "land of rock and roll" are not just rubbing heat.
Many tiger brothers are very unconvinced by Shijiazhuang. "Rock Home Town" is just a joke, and when it comes to "rock and roll town", it has to be Henan Xinxiang.
This small town in northern Henan has hosted two rock concerts. These two concerts have extraordinary significance for the development of Chinese rock bands.
Henan is a big province of opera, and pop music also has a market here. It is said that in Xinxiang that year, as long as you see young people wearing leather clothes and long hair, go up to a pair of codes "Listen to rock and roll", most of them can get a fellow person. In 1994, a shop called "Lao Cui Rock Costume Cooperative" was opened, and the leather clothes, metal chains and leather boots in the store formed the Garden of Eden of The Rock Youth in Xinxiang.
Like Shijiazhuang, under the strong rock atmosphere, Xinxiang youth spontaneously formed a band. At the same time, this small city in northern Henan has also attracted the attention of performance agents.
Performance planner Huang Liaoyuan recalled that in 1997, a Zhengzhou disco invited him to save a performance bureau of three bands. He has already performed several times at the North Exhibition, and he feels that "it is not interesting to make small fights, but to do it, I will do nine bands." The Zhengzhou Disco was obviously unable to accommodate so many bands and spectators, so it moved to the Xinxiang Sports Center, a performance called "China New Music Concert".
The lineup of the first "China New Music Concert" includes nine bands, including Zang Tianshuo, Zero Point, Tang Dynasty, Gao Qihe Overload Band, Cobra, AGAIN Reincarnation Band, Sober, Compass, and No. 43 Baojia Street. The second edition of the following year attracted Cui Jian, "Tang Dynasty", "Black Panther", "Thin Man" and the still young Flower Band.
"When I planned the Xinxiang Rock Concert in 1998, there was no rock music festival in China, and the outdoor performances of the nine bands were already the best at that time." Recalling the pomp and circumstance of that year, Huang Liaoyuan said.
From the 1990s to the present, Xinxiang, like other small towns, has not developed quickly and the pressure of life is not great, which also provides conditions for the inheritance of Xinxiang rollers from generation to generation, "Little Pumpkin", "Crazy Doctor" and "Medusa" are all from here.
Xi'an is an old rock town, and Zhang Chu, Zheng Jun, Xu Wei and other leading figures are from Xi'an, Shaanxi. In 1995, the "Rendu Rock Concert" was held in Xi'an, and the tape of "China's Western Rock" containing all the participating bands of the "Rendezvous Rock Concert" was released, recording the glory of Xi'an rock that year.
However, in recent years, the enthusiasm of young people in Xi'an for rock and roll has declined, and they have turned to wear large gold chains and watches, embarking on the road of underground rapping. This shift is related to the trend of youth popular culture and to the process of urban development.
Due to geographical reasons, trendy things always land from Guangzhou. It is not difficult to find out from the age of the participating teams in the music program that the young bands in Guangzhou have the largest number and play the most special, and Guangzhou is also known as the "nuclear capital". Also because of the strong local atmosphere, some bands can support themselves by performing.
There are also some "rock and roll towns" that have been named for producing musical instruments, such as the small town of Zheng'an in Guizhou.
Bands can have no bass, no synths, and even find other bands to borrow drums, but they must have their own guitars. Zheng'an is famous for making guitars in the circle, and guitar-shaped buildings can be seen everywhere in this small city.

In addition, Wuhan, the capital of punk, the northeast of agricultural heavy metals, and the rising star Hainan, have also been named "the hometown of rock and roll".
From the dispute of "rock and roll town", it is not difficult to find the influence of the change of the times on rock music, and the name of "rolling town" also shows a sinking trend from Beijing to the town in this change.
Dave Hack analyzes rock 'n' roll in Value for Money as a working-class culture that represents a cry. Beijing and Xi'an, which have developed into giant international cities, may have a rock atmosphere of "shouting to the outside world".
In a recent interview, Ma Hao told Hard Candy Jun that in their sea selection, the really good original musicians are often from small cities, while first- and second-tier cities are the most prolific trainees.
Perhaps, man is rock and roll only when he imagines the outside world; and when he is already living in the drunken fans of others, he can only rap; if he himself is the one who has a good life, he can be a trainee without any "uneven sound".
