Su Xun (1009-1066), the word Mingyun, the name Lao Quan, is also known as Lao Su. A native of Meishan, Meizhou (now Meishan, Sichuan Province). Together with Su Shi and Su Zhe, they are called the "Three Sus". He was a writer and essayist of the Northern Song Dynasty of China, and one of the eight masters of the Tang and Song dynasties.
Su Xun entered the school a little older, learned sentence reading, genus pairs, and sound rhythms, but gave up reading without learning, and then began to travel to famous mountains and rivers. At the age of 27, he started reading again. When he was admitted to Jinshi and Maocai, he failed to win. Soon after, Su Xun's father died, and he returned home to mourn. After being dismissed, he still lived in the township, studied books behind closed doors, wrote new articles, and wrote dozens of articles such as "Several Strategies", "Book of Authority", and "Theory of Balance", and systematically put forward innovative ideas involving various fields such as politics, economy, and military. In the first year of Renzong Jiayou (1056), Su Xun sent his second son to Beijing to take the exam. In the fifth year of Jiayou (1060), Su Xun was appointed as the secretary of the provincial school book, in addition to the main book of Wen'an County, Bazhou, and Yao Pi practiced the book of rites, and completed 100 volumes of "Taichang Yin Geli". In the third year of Zhiping (1066), Su Xun died.
Su Xun's literary achievements are mainly prose, and most of his essays are argumentative essays, often directly aimed at the reality of Northern Song Dynasty society. His prose is won by momentum, with the eloquent style of Xunzi and the Warring States Period, with clear views, deep analysis, sharp language, strict structure, and wonderful metaphors, showing a majestic and ancient style. Su Xun's prose was quite influential at the time, and it played a huge role in promoting the change of bad literary style. His "Book of Authority" and "Balance Theory" works, talking about the past and the present, the discussion is round, vertical and horizontal, there are "Su Wen cooked, eat mutton; Su Wensheng, eat vegetable soup". Su Xun does not have many poems, but all kinds of poems are available, especially the ancient poems of five or seven words.
