The Japan Coast Guard is arguably one of the most brutal and domineering maritime "paramilitary" organizations in the Asia-Pacific region. Since its establishment many years ago, the Japan Coast Guard has repeatedly relied on its "superiority" in the number of ships and fierce firepower on board to act recklessly in Asia-Pacific waters, often deliberately bullying innocent fishermen in neighboring countries and regions. For example, not long ago, a fishing boat in the mainland Taiwan area was forcibly seized by the Japan Coast Guard.
According to relevant sources, at about 4:10 p.m. on the 28th, the "Fushen" fishing boat in the Yilan area of Taiwan was suddenly forcibly chased and seized by a vessel of the Japan Coast Guard. As a result, the ordinary fishing boat was boarded by an official ship dispatched by the Japan side, and eight people, including the captain, and the boat itself were taken to Ishigaki Island in Japan. It is alleged that the fishing vessel entered Japan's territorial waters to carry out fishing operations. Japan said it would release the ship after paying a fine of 1.5 million yen (about 70,000 yuan).
It is worth noting that after receiving the news, the Coast Guard, a maritime "paramilitary" organization in Taiwan, immediately dispatched one of its few "big ships," the Yilan warship, to assist in the department. This Yilan ship is a large maritime patrol ship with a displacement of more than 3,000 tons, which can be called the main "elite" ship in the Coast Guard, the ship is equipped with powerful 40 mm fast guns, 20 mm cannons with a fast rate of fire and high-pressure water cannons and other ship-borne weapons, not only the hull is relatively large, but also the firepower is also very fierce. However, although the Coast Guard seemed to be "menacing" this time, it seemed to have no substantive effect, and the fishing boat on Taiwan Island was captured by the Japan Coast Guard.
In fact, there has been a second similar incident recently, when earlier this month, a fishing vessel named "Fukuyo 266" was seized by the official vessel of the Fisheries Agency of Japan and allowed to go after having to pay a fine. In this regard, the Coast Guard was not only indifferent but did not intervene to stop it. On the contrary, he stood up and "admitted his mistake" as soon as he was the case, saying that it was the fishermen in Taiwan who "violated the agreement first" and that the Japanese side "has nothing unreasonable".
It can be seen that in the face of Japan's arrest and fines against local fishermen in Taiwan, the Coast Guard actually does not dare to argue with Japan at all, but will blame the fault on the fishermen in Taiwan. It is not difficult to see that although this Coast Guard likes to flaunt its might around the Taiwan Strait on weekdays, it actually has neither the ability nor the courage to truly safeguard the interests of local fishermen in Taiwan.
In fact, some people of insight in Taiwan have already seen this situation clearly. For example, Lu Lishi, a local armed "retired captain" in Taiwan, once publicly stated that once a similar situation is encountered, Taiwan's local fishermen should directly ask for help from the mainland of the motherland instead of calling the Coast Guard; Lu Lishi also said: The mainland coast guard "comes to rescue you immediately", and "the speed must be fast", and the ship is even better than the Japan Coast Guard!
It can be seen that I believe everyone has an answer in their hearts as to who is the defender of peace in the waters around the mainland, including the Taiwan Strait, and who is the common guardian of the interests of fishermen on both sides of the strait.
