Walking on the "Long Bridge" in the water, you can see the rippling reflections of the buildings on the sidelines, and you can also see the blend of old and new buildings/textures more clearly, as well as the shadows and scenery of the four days that are still changing under the same sky.

With the economic development and the changes of the times, the villagers have gone out to work, do business or move out, the houses are empty, the old houses in the village have been idle, the village collective construction land lacks management, and the original noisy village is gradually withering and desolate. How to revitalize the long-dormant old village and bring new vitality and popularity has become a big challenge for this project. HIA Highland Design received an invitation from the Sanhe Daoli team to take on the design of the old village renovation. After nearly three years of nirvana rebirth, the long-dormant ancient village has finally opened a new chapter.

Aiming to create a richer integration of local memories and modern cultural tourism experiences, we worked with the owners to draw a vision of an all-round homestay hotel with rural hot spring resorts as the core. In terms of design, we combine traditional architectural elements with modern aesthetics to create an environment that coexists in harmony with nature. The village homestay provides a variety of accommodation options, special dining, rich field entertainment activities and characteristic cultural experiences, allowing guests to enjoy the natural hot springs while immersing themselves in the unique local cultural atmosphere of Qingyuan, realizing the harmonious blend of tradition and modernity.

Part.1 Sanhe Academy

It was originally a barn in disrepair in the original village, but after the renovation, the building retains part of the original historical style and adds richer interior space, which has become the landmark building of the hotel.

While retaining the original remnants of the wall and texture, the designer built a new set of concrete walls behind the old walls, and the solid and powerful walls not only supported the old walls, but also supported the high ceilings of the interior, allowing the interior to easily create a three-story library space including a semi-basement. The newly poured concrete wall has good supporting properties and supports the long-span roof, so that the space under the roof has a more open and free interior space than the traditional rural house.

Water feature atrium

It used to be a playground for the village, where the villagers would hold activities and sports, and it was also used as a threshing ground for every household when the farm was busy. The small venue carries the holding of major festivals in the village, and it is also a reflection of the collective memory of the village. The design team wanted to preserve the sense of place in this area, creating a landscaped water surface and paths. Walking on the "Long Bridge" in the water, you can see the rippling reflections of the buildings on the sidelines, and you can also see the blend of old and new buildings/textures more clearly, as well as the shadows and scenery of the four days that are still changing under the same sky.

Two concrete walls were constructed between the site and the national highway outside the hotel as spatial definitions, which partially attenuated the sound and enriched the visual scene. As guests walk through the front desk library and into the atrium of the water feature, they are partially sound-dampened by the four-sided buildings and concrete landscape walls, allowing for a more tranquil experience of exploration, even if they are actually close to the national highway. The reflection of the water surface in the atrium simultaneously deepens the depth of the landscape, presenting a harmonious sense of order.

Public dining room

The restaurant is located in the most expansive part of the hotel, facing a large rice field, and the designer uses this landscape to introduce the concept of "symbiosis between the restaurant and nature", using large landscape windows and flexible doors to blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor, so that natural light and landscape become part of the restaurant's design, and the ecological changes of the four seasons can be felt in a closer way.

In interior design, attention is paid to the selection of materials and the treatment of details. Natural materials such as wood and stone, as well as warm tones, are used to create a warm and comfortable dining environment. At the same time, the functional and aesthetic value of the space is enhanced through well-designed lighting and furniture layout.

Part.2 Renovation of suites

The hotel's 42-suite design reflects a continuation of the old building, with an understanding of the site and the creation of light-filled, landscape-oriented interiors that respect and preserve the existing building. Each suite creates a coherent "journey" between different floors and rooms, each with its own unique stylistic identity.

The original walls of the old house have become dilapidated and fragile under the washing of time, but at this time they are more like works of art that have been polished by time, so we erected a new concrete wall behind the old wall, ensuring safety and aesthetics while preserving the traces of the years. The exterior wall © after the renovation The team of Sanhe Daoli Official Hotel introduced the hot spring into the guest rooms, creating a unique hot spring experience combined with the scene of the old house suite.

The owners of Sanhe ingeniously used the stones collected by each household during the overall renovation of the old village to the area of the hotel's public pool. The stone, which has been polished for a long time and has taken on a smooth texture, presents a more warm texture aura under the immersion of the hot spring water.
