The CRJ 200, manufactured by Bombardier Canada and flown by Nepal's Saurya Airlines, took off from Kathmandu International Airport at 11:11 a.m. local time but crashed moments later in the eastern part of the airport, the Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement.

It is reported that the plane was flying to Pokhara, the second most populous city in Nepal, for maintenance, and most of the passengers on board were mechanics or airline employees, and 18 people, including all passengers, were unfortunately killed.

The only surviving pilot suffered eye injuries, but not life-threatening.

Dhyan Bahadur Khadka, the uncle of the deceased co-pilot Sasant Katuwal, revealed in an interview at the hospital that his nephew had a bright future after completing his training in France and had just received a visa to go to Germany for further training.
