Apple today announced the availability of Apple Maps on the web, which is now in open beta. Users can use this feature on Safari and other browsers to get navigation guidance without having to open the Maps app.
The web version is fully functional
The web version of Apple Maps features similar to the app, with users getting driving and walking directions, finding tourist attractions, checking ratings and hours of operation, and browsing select guides. In addition, users can order food directly from the map card and discover dining, shopping, and adventure in cities around the world. Apple says it will introduce more features, such as Look Around, in the coming months.
挑战 Google Maps
Apple Maps for the web will serve as an alternative to Google Maps, challenging the long-time most popular web mapping service. Users can use this service through Apple's Maps.Apple.com website. Developers can also link to a web-based map in the app to facilitate users to access driving directions and view location information.
Support for a variety of platforms
Currently, Apple Maps on the web is only available in English and is available in Safari and Chrome on Mac and iPad, and Chrome and Edge on Windows PC. Apple plans to gradually add support for additional languages, browsers, and platforms.
