The number of pickup trucks with extended range power is slowly increasing. In the context that the domestic Changan Hunter has been put on sale, United States RAM has chosen the next-generation model equipped with extended range power. Now there's one more Jeep gladiator.
The 2028 Jeep Gladiator, along with its Wrangler sibling, will undergo a controversial change in the direction of an all-electric EV and extended-range powertrain. Recent documents from the United Auto Workers of United States (UAW) inadvertently confirm the move in an agreement with Jeep parent company Stellantis, which outlines the future of several models.
The Gladiator EV will build on the brand's legendary heritage while incorporating modern design elements to enhance its appeal. Expect a mix of classic Wrangler's futuristic aesthetics, such as aerodynamic enhancements and advanced lighting technology. The design features a redesigned seven-groove grille, Rivian-style light bars and round-matrix LED headlights, as well as a lower bumper with an improved approach angle. The folding windshield and hood latches have been eliminated for a more stylish look.
The side profile is more aggressive, with a streamlined body, a two-tone roof with two LiDAR units, a well-defined shoulder line and an elongated cargo box with sloping space behind the cab. The rear, a damped tailgate, full-width organic LED taillights and a rugged look with the word "Jeep" printed on it.
The next-generation Gladiator and J70 Generation Wrangler are expected to feature an ultra-strong STLA-framed platform that promises increased structural stiffness and the ability to accommodate the heavy-duty batteries needed for long journeys. This architecture is the choice for the 2025 Ram, which is ideal for the Wrangler's famous off-road capabilities. It ensures that the vehicle retains its strength over rough terrain.
According to reports, Jeep will offer two electric powertrain options: a pure electric EV and a range extender. A battery electric vehicle is likely to boast a sizable battery pack (up to 229 kWh) with an estimated range of 560-800 km on a single charge, boasting an impressive 468 kW and 1,220 Nm of torque. The extended-range power, on the other hand, will use a small internal combustion engine as a generator to extend the vehicle's range and alleviate the concerns of long-distance travelers and off-road enthusiasts about the availability of EV chargers.
