According to the results of the 2023 industry basic survey, the China Chain Store & Franchise Association (CCFA) announced the "2023 China Top 100 Supermarkets" (see attached table).
In 2023, the sales scale of the top 100 supermarket enterprises will be 868 billion yuan, and the total number of stores will be 23,800, down 7.3% and 16.2% respectively from the top 100 supermarkets in the previous year.
Among the top 100 supermarket enterprises, there are 13 enterprises with sales of more than 10 billion yuan, including 7 enterprises with sales of more than 50 billion yuan. Walmart (China) will achieve sales of 120.2 billion yuan in 2023, ranking first in the top 100 supermarkets.
It can be seen from the changes in the operating conditions of the top 100 supermarket enterprises in 2023:
1. In first- and second-tier cities, the sales of membership stores and discount stores and the number of stores have increased significantly. Representative companies include: Wal-Mart, Costco, Yaodi, Hao Sale, ALDI, Hi Special Purchase, etc.
2. Nearly half of the supermarkets are operating steadily, and some of them are from low-tier areas. Among the top 100 supermarket companies in 2023, 44 have year-on-year sales growth, of which 27 are from lower-tier cities, and the representative companies are: Dazhang, Xinxinlou, Biute, Huangshang, Shoukang Yongle, etc.
3. Among the top 100 supermarket companies in 2023, 33 companies will increase the number of stores, 20 companies will have the same number of stores, but 47 companies will have a decrease in the number of stores.
