On July 22, the 2024 Forbes China Best CEO List was announced, and two Sichuan businessmen were on the list, namely Huang Xiaolei of Xinyisheng and Yang Lijuan of Haidilao.
According to the list, the top 10 best CEOs are Pinduoduo Co-CEOs Chen Lei and Zhao Jiazhen, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, CATL CEO Zeng Yuqun, BYD CEO Wang Chuanfu, Ctrip Group CEO Sun Jie, Midea Group CEO Fang Hongbo, Sungrow CEO Cao Renxian, Haier Smart Home CEO Li Huagang, Nongfu Spring CEO Zhong Sui and NetEase CEO Ding Lei.
Forbes said that this year's list does not place a special emphasis on the order in which CEOs are ranked, with the top 10 CEOs leading companies that have seen their stock prices rise by an average of 47 percent during the performance review period, in addition to an average net profit growth rate of 170 percent in the most recent financial year.
However, judging from the complete list map, Pinduoduo's Chen Lei and Zhao Jiazhen are ranked first, and Pinduoduo also ranks first in the market value of the companies on the list with a total market value of 1,440.10 billion yuan.
According to Forbes, as in previous years, the Forbes China Best CEO list refers to the basic financial indicators and shareholder return indicators such as market capitalization, range stock price fluctuations, net profit and growth rate, ROE and other basic financial indicators and shareholder return indicators of listed companies, and selects the top 50 CEOs of listed companies with comprehensive scores through research on thousands of listed companies, including A-shares, Chinese-funded Hong Kong stocks and overseas-listed Chinese concept stocks, and pays special attention to the operating performance of their companies for two consecutive years in the inspection of the best CEOs.
11 CEOs returned to the list
This year, 11 CEOs returned to the list.
Midea Group's Fang Hongbo re-entered the top 10 after a two-year hiatus, relying on the company's outstanding global growth momentum and outstanding performance in the capital market. Also returning and entering the top 10 is Lei Jun of Xiaomi Group.
In AI-related fields, the market performance of companies such as Zhongji Innolight, Xinyisheng, and Tianfu Communications in the past 12 months has far exceeded that of most AI companies. Among them, under the leadership of Liu Sheng, the net profit attributable to the parent company in 2023 will reach 2.125 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 104.81%.
15 CEOs have been selected consecutively
There are 15 consecutive finalists this year, an increase of five from last year. Among them, BYD's Wang Chuanfu and Inovance Technology's Zhu Xingming have become the only two CEOs in this year's list to be selected for four consecutive years. A further 24 CEOs were selected for the first time.
There are 6 "post-80s" CEOs
In this year's list, the average age of the best CEOs is 54.8 years old, and the "post-80s" CEOs have reached a record six, three times that of last year.
Specifically, in addition to Pinduoduo's Chen Lei and Zhao Jiazhen, four more "post-80s" have been added this year.
Born in 1987, Wang Ning, CEO of Bubble Mart, became the youngest self-made founder in the history of the list. In the first quarter of this year, Pop Mart maintained a rapid growth of more than 40%, and the overseas market also continued its rapid growth trend for many years, with a year-on-year increase of nearly 250%.
In this regard, Forbes believes that Pop Mart does not blindly pursue rapid expansion and market share improvement, but pays more attention to business quality and user experience. This year, the company has expanded outwards in an orderly manner, such as creating more popular products including building blocks, laying out games, and promoting the construction of theme parks.
In addition to Wang Ning, the CEOs of the "post-80s" generation also include Chang Jing, CEO of Roborock, who makes cars from home appliances, Zhang Zhengping, CEO of Cialis who jointly launched "AITO Wenjie" with Huawei, and Li Li, CEO of Runze Technology, who is low-key to make big data "water, electricity and coal".
Seven female CEOs were selected
This year, a total of 7 female CEOs were selected, the most noteworthy of which is Yang Lijuan of Haidilao.
Since taking office in 2021, Yang Lijuan has put the company back on the growth track in just three years. In 2023, Haidilao's overall revenue will be 41.453 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 33.6%; The after-tax profit for the year was as high as 4.495 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of about 174.6%. In addition, Haidilao's international business also turned a profit last year. (On June 21 this year, Yang Lijuan resigned as CEO of Haidilao; On July 1, he became the CEO of Tehai International. )
