On the evening of July 18, in the midst of the audience's long-lasting applause, the cross-strait drama "Seeking Taste" ended at the National Theater.

"Seeking Taste" is jointly produced by the All-China Federation of Trade Unions Art Troupe, the Beijing Municipal Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and the Beijing Municipal Taiwan Affairs Office, and dozens of powerful performers from both sides of the Taiwan Strait participated in the creation. The play starts from a bowl of beef noodles, from the dependent villages in Taiwan to the hutongs of Beijing, in the warm story of four generations of a family gathering and dispersing, it tells a special story of returning home, extending the strong family affection of compatriots on both sides of the strait.
Since its premiere, "Taste of Taste" has received an overwhelming response from audiences throughout the country. From "tasteless" to "taste-seeking", the story of "Taste-seeking" is told on the stage, and the audience also tastes the ups and downs, joys and sorrows of life from a bowl of beef noodles, and experiences the family affection and love that blood is thicker than water cut by time and space.
An audience member interviewed at the scene said that a bowl of beef noodles is full of the joys and sorrows of the years and the love of human nature, the whole play is original and done in one go, with a sense of historical depth, the actors' performances are exquisite, and there are many tears in the clip, which can be called a masterpiece.
Zhang Qingshan, a professor at the Department of Stage Design of the Central Academy of Drama, believes that "Seeking Taste" is a warm and intriguing good work, which revolves around the main story line to unfold the dramatic conflict of mother-son love, brother-sister love, friendship and love, which is deeply touching and tear-jerking. The stage space, using the rotating movement mode and the syncopation of the light area, skillfully integrates the passage of time into the transformation of time and space, greatly enriches the stage fulcrum and scene scheduling, and makes full use of the functional attributes of the "double-ring turntable" to express the deep connotation of cross-strait relations.
Mao Fuguo, deputy director and researcher of the Drama Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Arts, believes that the rhythm of the drama "Seeking Taste" is soothing and modest, with a power to immerse the audience. With "taste-seeking" as the main line, it has the characteristics of scattering and gathering. The actor's restrained performance contains emotional tension, with a kind of penetration, like a thick old soup poured on beef noodles boiled over a simmer, allowing the audience to experience the deep meaning.
Since its premiere at the National Theatre in March 2023, "Seeking Taste" has toured more than 10 places including Beijing, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Xichang, Shanghai, Suzhou, Shijiazhuang, Xi'an, Chongqing, Nanning, and Xiamen, with nearly 60 performances, serving more than 260,000 online and offline audiences. The return to the National Theatre is one of the 40 outstanding plays in the country sponsored by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles. As one of the only nine dramas, "Seeking Taste" is the first time that the high-quality repertoire of the ACFTU Art Troupe has participated in such an event in recent years.
It is understood that the play has won many awards such as the 18th China Theatre Festival Outstanding Repertoire and the 8th National Drama Outstanding Repertoire.
