Stalin's life was marked by two marriages. His first wife was Georgian Catherine · Svanidze, who gave birth to a son for Stalin, Yakov. Unfortunately, however, Catherine died of typhus fever in 1907, when Stalin was only 29 years old.
On March 24, 1919, at the age of 41, Stalin married 18-year-old Nadezhda · Aliluyeva as his second wife, and there was a 23-year age gap between the two. Aliluyeva's father, Serge·i Yakovlevich · Alliluyev, came from a peasant family in the Voronezh province of Russia, but her grandmother was a gypsy. Stalin's childhood was marked by a lack of fatherly affection, a shoemaker and drunkard who often resorted to drunken violence. During his time at the seminary, his son was rebellious, taking part in frequent demonstrations and strikes, and was eventually expelled from the school. In April 1901, Stalin was wanted for his participation in the May Day demonstrations in Tbilisi, and Aliluyev helped him go into hiding. After being expelled from the seminary, Stalin threw himself into the underground revolutionary activities in the Caucasus. Since 1907, Stalin has been tried several times and imprisoned six times. He even took part in bank robberies to raise funds from the Bolsheviks, an act that led to his exile to Siberia, but Stalin always managed to escape.
The Aliluyev family moved from Tbilisi to the civilian quarters of Petrograd in 1914. During this period, Stalin visited frequently, and was not only cared for by his future mother-in-law, Ogar, who also took care of Lenin and Zilovyev. Aliluyev's home hosted several important meetings of the Bolsheviks. In 1921, Stalin officially became a member of the Bolsheviks. Between 1916 and 1917, Stalin was released from prison and immediately enlisted in the army, but was rejected by the enlistment commission because he was deemed unfit for battle.
