Mr. Tang Fazhou, a disciple of Qi Liangzhi, the president of Qi Baishi Painting and Calligraphy Academy, once heard his master Qi Baishi's youngest daughter Qi Liangzhi say: My father, the old man Baishi, has to feed cattle and chickens every day in his hometown since he was a child, and he is very familiar with the life of chickens, and he has been very vivid in painting chickens before the age of 30. After the age of 60, he began to further study chick painting. The old man first used large dots to depict the shape of the chick, and then added a mouth, eyes and claws. I don't feel very vivid, only its form has not been revealed. By the time he was 63 years old, he had improved his chicks and was able to subtly express the various movements of the chicks in the arrangement of his claws. Later, he changed the ink method, using thick and light ink to separate the flock and remove the ambiguity.

The old man skillfully mastered the shade of ink, dry and wet, from dipping into the pen which side has more ink and less water, which side has less ink and more water, and the difference in brushwork, skillfully painted the fluffy texture on the chicks, and the various expressions and dynamics of the chicks were also drawn.
