The video shows that after the plastic bucket was pulled off the bear's head, both the bear and the people involved in the rescue quickly ran in the opposite direction. Aung Wen Dorje, director of the Angsai Township Police Station, told the Red Star News reporter that in order to ensure the safety of people and bears, the on-site rescue was cautious and made many attempts, and the whole process lasted more than half an hour.

According to Aung Vin Dorje, brown bears are common in the local area, and there are occasional infestations to herders, including more than 10 small yaks. Since the beginning of this year, the Angsai Township Police Station has received four reports about brown bears.

Brown bears stealing their heads and getting stuck in plastic buckets

The police and civilians tried for half an hour and finally pulled the bucket off

"We received the police at 2 p.m. on July 5, and the place of the incident was more than two hours away from the police station." Aung Wen Dorje told the Red Star News reporter that after receiving the alarm, the police station immediately rushed to the scene and reported to the Party Committee of the Zaduo County Public Security Bureau at the same time.

In the end, more than 10 police officers from the Angsai Township Police Station, the County Special Patrol Police Brigade, the Forest Public Security and the Nangqian Juela Township Police Station rushed to the scene to participate in the "rescue".

▲The brown bear stealing food was stuck in a plastic bucket

Aung Vin Dorje said that the adult brown bear weighed more than 300 pounds, and when he arrived at the scene, the brown bear was squatting helplessly on the ground, occasionally trying to pull the bucket off with its paws. The brown bear was stuck in a plastic bucket when it broke into the herder's tent to steal food, and if the bucket was not removed, the brown bear would not be able to eat and would eventually starve to death. They took a closer look and found that the bear was not injured, and then began to think of a way to rescue it.

"We have to keep people safe and not hurt the bears." Aung Vin Dorje said that after careful study, the rescuers could only try to tie the holster with a rope and then throw it over and pull the bucket off the bucket. But during the rescue, the bear appeared very nervous, and the rescuers were also nervous. People didn't dare to get too close, and the bear kept struggling backwards, and several times the noose was either not put on, or it was not caught after being put on......

▲Rescuers and brown bears started a "tug-of-war"

This repeated for more than half an hour, and Qu Da, an auxiliary police officer of the Angsai Township Police Station, finally put the rope on. He took advantage of the bear's quietness, slowly approached, stood 3 meters away from the bear, threw the rope over and put it on the bucket. Aung Wen Dorje said that after the rope was trapped, the police and herders at the scene worked together to pull the rope and start a "tug-of-war" with the brown bear, and finally pulled the bucket off.

Video from the scene shows the moment the bucket was pulled out, the brown bear panicked back and fled. The policemen and villagers involved in the "tug-of-war" also hurriedly retreated and ran in the opposite direction.

Brown bears often harass herders

A few days ago, three brown bears had just killed more than 10 baby yaks

According to Luo Jun, an ecological ranger, the brown bear was found with its head covered in a bucket on the night of July 4, and three brown bears broke into the herder's tent to steal food that night, and one of its head was stuck in a plastic bucket. The next day, he and a few villagers went to the surrounding area to look for the three bears, but only found the brown bear stuck in the plastic bucket, and the other two were missing.

Luo Jun immediately called the police, and the police told him not to rush to save the bear to avoid danger. Luo Jun stayed at the scene, observing the bear's movements, and waiting for the police to arrive and rescue together. Luo Jun told the Red Star News reporter that after the end of hibernation, spring and summer are the peak period of brown bear activity, and brown bears often appear in pastures, often invading herders' tents and camps for collecting cordyceps. A few days ago, the three brown bears entered the herder's cattle pen and killed more than 10 baby yaks.

Aung Vin Dorje told the Red Star News reporter that a few days ago he did receive a report of a brown bear biting and killing more than 10 small yaks. He said that since the beginning of this year, the police station has received four reports of brown bears invading local herders.

According to the website of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, the brown bear is a national second-class protected wild animal and one of the largest mammals of the carnivorous order on land, and is highly aggressive. The Red Star News reporter learned that in May and June this year, the Qinghai police have carried out a carpet search and mountain patrol work in the brown bear infested area to protect the brown bear, a national second-class protected wild animal, and also to protect the safety of people's lives and property.
