Every summer, the fragrance of gardenias has become a common scenery in the Jiangnan region, but no one thought that gardenias, as ornamental plants, became popular this summer because of other things, and even the price rose to 40 yuan a catty, what is going on? What does the gardenia quilt have to do with the new tea?
First, the purchase price of gardenias skyrocketed to 40 yuan a catty?
According to a report by Time Weekly, after coconut, lime and lemon, the new tea drink brand has become popular gardenia.
Since June, Nai Xue's tea, Shanghai Auntie, Bawang Tea, Hey Tea, Lele Tea and other ready-made tea brands have launched new gardenia-flavored products such as Perfume Gardenia Green Series, Oriental Gardenia, Mountain Gardenia, Little White Gardenia, Gardenia Sour Papaya, etc.
According to incomplete statistics from the Times Weekly reporter, at present, including the above brands, there are more than 20 gardenia-flavored products launched by 12 tea brands on the market.
In the summer of 2021, Nai Xue's tea, Hey Tea, and Lele tea will focus on launching new orange-flavored products, and the purchase price of some varieties of mandarin oranges has skyrocketed from 4~5 yuan/jin to more than 40 yuan/jin; From 2019 to 2022, due to the successive use of perfume lemon as the raw material of new products by various tea brands, and the reduction in production caused by the impact of weather, the purchase price of perfume lemon has also risen from 3~5 yuan per jin to 30 yuan per catty.
Nowadays, the new popularity of gardenia products has also been transmitted to the supply chain.
Shen Lang (pseudonym), the person in charge of a tea factory in Qianwei County, Leshan, Sichuan, told the Times Weekly reporter that the purchase price of gardenias has been rising recently, from more than 20 yuan per catty at the end of April to more than 40 yuan in early July, compared with 3~8 yuan in the same period last year, an astonishing increase.
Qianwei County is an important production area of gardenias in mainland China, with a gardenia planting area of more than 100,000 mu and an average yield of 1,500 catties per mu, and is expected to produce 12,000 tons of gardenia tea in 2024. Every year in April ~ June is the harvest season of gardenias, after picking, tea factory processing, gardenia will be made into gardenia tea, supplied to tea brands or related supply chain enterprises.
Second, the new tea drink has a fire gardenia again?
In today's consumer market, the rapid popularity of the new tea beverage market has undoubtedly brought many development opportunities. This dynamic and innovative sector continues to offer a variety of new and unique beverages, resulting in a series of popular items. From the former lime and lemon to today's gardenia, they are all shining on the stage of new tea drinks, and this year it is the turn of gardenias.
First of all, since 2021, the new tea beverage market has continued to maintain a rapid growth trend, and the market scale has been expanding. The rapid growth of this market is not only due to the improvement of consumers' health awareness and the pursuit of high-quality beverages, but also due to the continuous exploration and experimentation of new tea brands in product innovation. By introducing a variety of fresh fruits, specialty teas and other raw materials, the new tea brand has continuously launched new products with recognition and differentiation, and has successfully attracted the attention of a large number of consumers. From the early lime and lemon to today's gardenia, these items have quickly become popular under the impetus of tea brands and have become the new favorites of the market. The success of these items has not only brought high sales to tea brands, but also greatly increased the market value of related agricultural products.
Secondly, this year, gardenia has become the darling of the new tea market. Major tea brands have launched new products made from gardenias, which have quickly gained the favor of consumers due to their unique aroma and beautiful appearance. However, this sudden burst of demand far exceeded the existing supply capacity, coupled with the mutual borrowing and imitation between brands, led to a sharp increase in demand for gardenias, which in turn caused an imbalance between supply and demand, and the price skyrocketed to 40 yuan a catty. In addition, due to the growth cycle and seasonal restrictions of gardenias, it is difficult to quickly expand the planting area in a short period of time, which pushes up the purchase price and makes the price of gardenia further higher.
Thirdly, while rising prices in the short term are a big plus for gardenia growers, there is a great deal of uncertainty about the performance of this trend-dependent market, as consumer tastes and needs are always changing and updating, and new trends and trends are constantly emerging. For example, some tea items that were once all the rage may no longer be popular with consumers. Once gardenias are no longer popular, their prices are likely to fall back and market demand will decrease accordingly. Therefore, for agricultural products such as gardenias, how to achieve the stable development of industrialization and avoid over-reliance on short-term market fluctuations is a problem that needs to be considered by the industry.
Fourth, despite this, the rise of agricultural products brought about by the rise of new tea drinks is of great significance to agricultural development. The innovative demand for new tea drinks has provided new sales channels and market space for agricultural products, giving some agricultural products that have not received much attention an opportunity to show their value. This will not only help increase peasants' incomes, but also promote the diversified development of the rural economy and promote the optimization and adjustment of the agricultural industrial structure.
At the same time, the cultural trend brought by the new tea drink is also worthy of our attention. The new tea drink is not only a drink, but also a manifestation of a lifestyle and cultural symbol. Taking gardenia as an example, its application in new tea drinks not only allows more people to understand and taste the unique flavor of gardenia, but also spreads the cultural connotation contained in gardenia. The dissemination and inheritance of this kind of culture plays a positive role in enriching social and cultural life and enhancing cultural self-confidence.
In addition, the combination of new tea drinks and gardenias also provides a vivid case for the integration of traditional agriculture and modern consumer culture. By integrating agricultural products into fashionable and trendy new tea drinks, traditional agriculture can be closely connected with the modern consumer market, and the value enhancement and innovative development have been realized. This provides useful reference and enlightenment for the development and utilization of other agricultural products.
