Hun Manet: Protecting cultural heritage is the responsibility of every Cambodian!

Prime Minister Hun Manet said this in a message congratulating Cambodia's Sampo Polei Ancient Monastery on its 7th anniversary (July 8, 2017 – July 8, 2024) as a World Heritage Site.

Sampo Po Lei Ancient Temple is located in Sam Bo Village, Sam Phu Township, Bassat Sempo District, Kampong Thom Province, about 25 km from the center of Kampong Thom Province. Sampo Po Lei Ancient Temple is the most important ancient temple in the pre-Angkor period. It is said that it was built by Jayavarman I in the early 7th century, and then continued to be built by other kings, and more than 100 temples can still be seen, of which 52 are still standing, and 52 have collapsed and been buried.

Sampo Po Lei Ancient Temple is the third monument in Cambodia to be listed as a World Heritage Site. This was followed by Angkor Wat (built in the 12th century) and Wat Preah Vihear (built in the 11th century), which were listed as World Heritage Sites in 1992 and 2008 respectively.
