Influenced by his family, Wu Jianqi has had a heart to serve the country since he was a child.
When he was in school, he worked hard, and his academic performance has always been among the best, and in the year of the college entrance examination, he achieved the third good result in the city and successfully entered Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. After graduating from the bachelor's degree, Wu Jianqi was admitted to the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China for further study with an infinite thirst for knowledge.
Why study radar? Radar is the core technology of reconnaissance stealth fighters, because only when radar technology is developed enough can the enemy be feared. The strongest bright sword is not to subdue the enemy in what short time, but to surrender without a fight, why hold a big military parade? It is just to take out the army weapons from time to time to show off their muscles, so that others dare not easily beat our ideas.
Especially in the air battlefield, the scientific and technological gap between the major powers is getting smaller and smaller, and stealth and anti-stealth capabilities have become a key topic of competition between military powers.
In 1991, the Gulf War broke out. For the first time, US stealth planes were used on a large scale, and the number of Western troops led by the United States did not exceed 700,000, while the number of local Iraqi troops was as high as 1.2 million, and there were countless warplanes and tanks on both sides.
Iraq's huge army, in the face of the shadowless and invisible stealth aircraft in the sky, had no way to deal with it, was almost completely crushed, had no power to fight back, and was quickly defeated. At the beginning of the research, Wu Jianqi encountered a big problem, in the 90s, the domestic radar technology was not much better than Iraq, how can we find another way, through the new radar technology to achieve the purpose of anti-stealth? Wu Jianqi thought about it day and night and made a bold decision, he wanted to study the meter-wave radar.
Many people questioned him for two reasons: first, although the meter-wave radar was popular in the 50s, it was quickly eliminated by various countries because of its low frequency and poor resolution, and almost all the mainstream radar technology was replaced by microwave radar. Secondly, now there are no technical and experimental conditions for studying meter-wave radar in China, which means that everything has to be started from scratch, which is too risky.
But Wu Jianqi doesn't think so, in his opinion, the stealth function of modern stealth fighters almost all rely on the coatings covering the fuselage, and the design of these coatings is almost all developed for the frequency of microwave radar, in other words, stealth aircraft can escape the monitoring of microwave radar, but may not be able to escape the meter-wave radar.
Theoretically, Wu Jianqi will do what he says, and this is 20 years. In 1999, when US fighter planes bombed the mainland embassy in Yugoslavia, Wu Jianqi's research had been carried out for more than 10 years, and although this bombing caused us huge losses of life and property, it also proved that Wu Jianqi's theoretical direction was correct, and the stealth of US fighters in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia failed, and the Yugoslav Federation used meter-wave radar at that time.
In 2000, Wu Jianqi's team completed all the key topics on meter-wave radar. In the second year, Wu Jianqi's research project also won the first prize of the National Defense Science and Technology Award, and was commended by the state. In 2003, with the efforts of the team, the three-coordinate meter-wave radar was born, and the first anti-stealth meter-wave radar in China was born. However, the phased results did not stop Wu Jianqi's scientific research, but continued to improve the technology.
In 2012, Wu Jianqi led the team to complete the design and finalization of the meter-wave radar, and in 2013, the meter-wave radar equipped by the People's Liberation Army successfully detected the traces of the American F22 fighter flying in the South China Sea for the first time, even if it was 450 kilometers apart, the actions of the US military were also exposed.
