She is the wife of Shang King Wu Ding Wu Neng to fight wars and Wen Neng for divination, she is the first female military commander in Chinese history documented, and she is also an outstanding female politician, and the first female general in Chinese history.
After the death of the woman, the temple was called "Xin", and she lived in the 13th century BC during the period when Wuding reorganized the Shang Dynasty. The martial arts of the Shang Dynasty were the most prosperous in the era of Shang Gaozong Wuding, who expanded the territory of the Shang Dynasty several times through a series of wars.
The oracle bone inscription records: One summer, there was a war on the northern border, the two sides were at loggerheads, the woman volunteered and asked to lead the troops, Wu Ding hesitated, and only after divination did he decide to send the woman to raise troops, and the result was a great victory. After that, Wu Ding made her commander-in-chief. Since then, she has conquered more than 20 independent small countries around her, and the number of people dispatched to fight at that time is generally thousands, but according to records, there are more than 13,000 soldiers in the army, which means that half of the army of the Shang Dynasty at that time was handed over to her.
The Shang king Wuding had three queens before and after, and the wife of the Shang king was not only his spouse but also a general and a minister, and the woman was one of his original partners. Because of her outstanding military achievements, she has her own fief and property, so she does not live with Wu Ding, but often stays in her own fiefdom. This phenomenon never happened again in later Chinese history. But at the time, it seemed like a normal phenomenon.
However, Nu Hao died in her thirties, but it was not an early death during the Shang Dynasty, but it was indeed a premature death compared to Wu Ding, who reigned for 59 years. Wu Ding was very sad, and the woman had a huge tomb where she was buried alone, and there was a solemn ceremony of worship. This was very rare during the Shang Dynasty.
The unfortunate death of the woman made Wu Ding very sad, and buried her next to the palace where he dealt with military and political affairs, so that he could see his wife at any time and guard her day and night.
Even so, Wu Ding still felt that the power he was guarding was not enough, not enough to reach deep into the Netherworld. So, he held large-scale sacrifices for the woman again and again, and held many secret marriages for the woman, and married her ghost to the three ancestors of the Shang kings: Wu Ding's sixth ancestor Zu Yi, the eleventh ancestor Taijia, and the thirteenth ancestor Chengtang. After finally marrying the woman into soup, Wu Ding finally relieved his heart, believing that with as many as three great ancestors taking care of her, the woman would be safe and cared for in the netherworld.
Shang King Wu Ding personally arranged the secret marriage for his beloved wife after the death of the woman, and the officials must be very puzzled, why did the woman marry so many kings later? Did the queen of the Shang Dynasty have the right to marry multiple times? The people of the Shang Dynasty were superstitious about ghosts and gods and admired the mandate of heaven. They believe that everything in the world depends on the heavens, the gods, and the ancestors. Wu Ding's feelings for the woman are very special, perhaps because he is deeply in love, and he is always difficult to let go of the woman's departure. So the enlightened monarch betrothed his cherished wife to the long-dead virtuous king, presumably believing that these dead ancestors would protect his wife in the underworld, or, as he could, that the beauty of women could be compared to that of the great kings.
